Job Overview: The Social Support position is crucial for the day-to-day implementation of core competency activities and related projects within the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC). This role involves ensuring that projects adhere to NRC policies and effectively reach the most vulnerable populations. The Social Support staff will be responsible for data collection, document management, and collaboration with local authorities and partners. The position requires a commitment to NRC's mission and values, as well as a proactive approach to community engagement and support. The Social Support staff will work closely with WASH and shelter coordinators and other NRC staff to implement program activities according to established plans, ensuring that the needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs), returnees, and host communities are met.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Social Support position include:
Ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures in all project activities.
Identifying and prioritizing the most vulnerable populations for assistance.
Acting as the first point of contact between NRC and project participants, ensuring transparency and accountability during beneficiary selection, verification, and registration.
Coordinating with community leaders and local authorities to facilitate project implementation.
Conducting household verification visits to assess the needs of vulnerable populations.
Establishing complaints and feedback mechanisms to address community concerns.
Leading community mobilization efforts and disseminating essential information regarding distributions and related activities.
Following up on field activities within the project scope under the WASH and shelter programs.
Preparing and submitting organized field reports to the WASH and Shelter coordinator or delegated staff. 1
Performing any other relevant tasks as requested by the line manager.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Social Support position include a degree in Hydraulics engineering, water engineering, construction/civil engineering, or a related field. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and demonstrate a commitment to NRC's mission and values. Additionally, candidates should have experience working in humanitarian organizations, particularly in roles related to community mobilization or social support. Experience in WASH and shelter programs is considered an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold a degree in a relevant field such as Hydraulics engineering, water engineering, construction/civil engineering, or a related discipline. This educational background is essential for understanding the technical aspects of the projects and effectively contributing to the implementation of WASH and shelter activities.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience in humanitarian organizations is required, preferably in field roles such as community mobilizer or social support staff. Experience working with government authorities and vulnerable beneficiaries is essential, as is familiarity with the context of Ethiopian IDPs, returnees, and refugee camps. Previous work on livelihoods projects is also advantageous, as it provides valuable insights into the needs and challenges faced by these populations.
Languages: Fluency in Tigrigna, the local language, is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with project participants and community members. A fair understanding of the English language is also required, as it may be necessary for reporting and coordination with NRC staff and partners.
