This role is crucial as it functions as a senior strategic partner to program leadership, translating financial data into operational guidance and supporting major programmatic decisions. The Senior Finance Manager will be responsible for portfolio-level financial planning, risk management, and donor stewardship, ensuring that resources are allocated effectively and that program decisions align with strategic priorities and financial realities. The position requires close collaboration with the Vice President and Cluster Program Directors to oversee all financial management across the cluster, including proposal budgeting, forecasting, reporting, compliance, and audit readiness across multiple donors and countries. The role also involves supervising a Senior Associate responsible for day-to-day grant financial operations, ensuring high-quality execution while maintaining ownership of financial strategy and complex problem-solving.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Finance Manager will lead the financial management of projects across the HHT cluster portfolio, serving as the senior finance lead to the Vice President and Program Directors. Key responsibilities include leading portfolio-level forecasting, expenditure analysis, funding gap identification, and financial planning, translating findings into actionable recommendations for senior management. The role also involves supporting strategic planning, fundraising, and program prioritization, identifying financial risks, and implementing mitigation strategies. The Senior Finance Manager will standardize financial practices across disease programs, drive continuous improvement of financial operations, and enhance financial visibility through consistent reporting and improved workflows. Additionally, the manager will lead the development of comprehensive budgets for proposals and new grants, serve as the primary finance focal point for donors, review donor contracts, and coordinate with CHAI HQ finance teams to ensure compliance with donor requirements. The role also includes leading the development of donor financial reports, overseeing grant financial close-out, and managing the annual budget development and reforecasting for program teams.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have 7–10 years of experience in financial planning, grant management, or portfolio finance, preferably within an international NGO. An advanced degree such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Public Administration (MPA) is preferred, although a Bachelor’s degree with relevant work experience may be considered. Strong familiarity with financial systems, budgeting, accounting best practices, and expense recording and reporting is essential. Experience managing complex multi-donor grants across multiple teams is required, along with strong quantitative skills in financial modeling and forecasting. The candidate should be self-motivated, capable of working independently and within a team, and have experience supervising or mentoring staff. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary to deliver high-quality feedback to senior stakeholders, donors, and partners.
Educational Background: The position requires an advanced degree, preferably a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Public Administration (MPA). The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of financial systems and practices, as well as the ability to translate financial information into strategic guidance for programmatic decisions.

Additional languages relevant to the countries in which CHAI operates may be considered beneficial but are not explicitly required.
Additional Notes: The position is flexible in terms of location, pending country leadership approval and the ability to obtain work authorization in one of CHAI’s program countries.
