Job Overview: The Conservation Trust Funds Lead will spearhead all processes related to conservation trust funds (CTFs) for WWF's Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) initiatives globally. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the identification, assessment, selection, establishment, design, and operationalization of CTFs. The Lead will be tasked with developing operational documents and governance structures tailored to the specific needs of these funds. Additionally, the position involves overseeing capacity building for CTFs, monitoring their performance, and sharing best practices both within WWF and with external partners. The role is crucial for ensuring that CTFs are effectively managed and aligned with WWF's conservation goals, thereby contributing to the sustainability of various environmental projects.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Conservation Trust Funds Lead include leading feasibility assessments and comparative analyses of CTFs, ensuring compliance with Conservation Finance Alliance Practice Standards. The Lead will facilitate the selection and establishment of CTFs, coordinate the design of governance structures, and oversee capacity-building efforts for priority funds. Responsibilities also include developing operating manuals, drafting closing and disbursement conditions, and contributing to institutional arrangements for PFPs. The Lead will support negotiations with CTFs, coordinate analyses for fund administration, and monitor CTF performance. Collaboration with various stakeholders, including Enduring Earth partners and legal counsel, is essential for addressing governance issues and ensuring effective implementation of conservation strategies. The Lead will also oversee consultants and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 2 years specifically working with CTFs or similar entities. A law degree is preferred, although other graduate degrees in fields such as management, business, finance, international development, or conservation will also be considered. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the structure, governance, and management of CTFs, along with outstanding analytical and project management skills. A demonstrated ability to take ownership of detailed tasks while driving strategic initiatives is essential, as is experience in developing complex agreements with public or private sectors. The candidate should be adept at working with diverse stakeholders, including NGOs, foundations, and governments, and possess a high degree of flexibility to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a law degree or other advanced degrees in management, business, finance, international development, or conservation. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of conservation finance and the operational aspects of trust funds.
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically 12 years in relevant fields, with at least 2 years focused on conservation trust funds or similar entities. This experience should encompass project management, analytical capabilities, and a proven track record of working collaboratively with various stakeholders in the conservation sector.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with fluency in Spanish strongly preferred. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance collaboration with diverse partners and stakeholders involved in conservation efforts.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work structure requiring a minimum of 2 days a week in the office. Candidates from outside the Washington, DC area will also be considered, and the position is eligible for relocation. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., as the position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. The salary range for this role is between $144,000 and $206,90
