Job Overview: The Protection from Violence Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Rohingya refugee response activities in Ukhiya, specifically focusing on protection case management and individual protection assistance for vulnerable refugees. This position involves managing protection cases, identifying individuals in need of assistance, coordinating with partners and stakeholders, and contributing to program implementation, reporting, and capacity building. The officer will work closely with the Protection from Violence Coordinator to provide technical expertise, including training and mentorship to NRC and national partner staff. The role requires a strong commitment to NRC's core values of dedication, innovation, inclusivity, and accountability, ensuring that all actions and relationships align with these principles.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection from Violence Officer will be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including: providing technical expertise and training in protection case management; contextualizing NRC's case management tools for the Bangladesh context; developing and maintaining case management processes; conducting individual protection assistance assessments and support; managing all protection case management activities; organizing regular case conferences; conducting household visits and center-based interviews; participating in awareness-raising sessions; supporting local service mapping; ensuring data accuracy and compliance with data protection policies; collaborating with local authorities and stakeholders; maintaining accurate and confidential case files; representing NRC in coordination meetings; and supporting documentation-related tasks. The officer will also be expected to maintain confidentiality and uphold data protection standards as per NRC's policies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong personal competencies, including integrity, flexibility, adaptability, empathy, effective communication, and a commitment to humanitarian principles. Additionally, the position requires a minimum of 3 years of experience as a Case Worker in a humanitarian context, preferably in Bangladesh. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, social sciences, law, or a relevant field, along with training in Psychological First Aid and/or Trauma-Informed Interviewing. A strong understanding of case management principles, experience in service mapping, and the ability to deliver training and mentorship are also essential. Proficiency in computer skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and databases, is required, along with fluency in Rohingya and good English language skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, social sciences, law, or a relevant field. Additional training in Psychological First Aid (PFA) and/or Trauma-Informed Interviewing is highly desirable, as it equips candidates with the necessary skills to handle sensitive cases effectively.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3 years of experience working as a Case Worker in a humanitarian context, with a preference for experience in Bangladesh. This experience should include a strong understanding of case management principles and referral pathways, as well as experience in service mapping and coordination mechanisms. Candidates should also have experience in delivering training and mentoring staff, as well as supervising assistants or volunteers.
Languages: Fluency in Rohingya is mandatory for this position, as it is essential for effective communication with the refugee population. Good English language skills are also required to facilitate reporting and collaboration with international partners and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The duty station for this position is Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, with a contract duration of 8 months. The position is open to Bangladeshi Nationals only, and candidates are encouraged to apply early as applications may be screened prior to the vacancy deadline.
