Job Overview: The position of Photographer at UNHCR Egypt involves capturing high-quality images that tell compelling stories about the experiences of refugees and displaced persons. The photographer will be responsible for documenting events and creating reportage photography that highlights the work of UNHCR and the lives of those it serves. The ideal candidate will utilize their own high-end photography equipment to produce high-resolution images (4000+ pixels) and will be expected to edit and prepare these images using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge. The role requires a creative individual who can work independently and collaboratively, adapting to various indoor and outdoor settings while effectively directing subjects and obtaining necessary consents. The photographer will also be responsible for crafting English captions that accompany the images, ensuring they convey the intended message and context.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Capture high-resolution photographs during UNHCR events and activities, ensuring all images meet the required technical specifications.
Edit and process images using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge, maintaining high standards of quality and consistency.
Create engaging captions in English that provide context and narrative for each photograph.
Work closely with UNHCR staff to understand the objectives of each assignment and ensure that the photography aligns with the organization's messaging.
Obtain necessary consents from subjects featured in photographs, ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
Adapt to various environments and conditions, demonstrating flexibility and creativity in capturing images.
Maintain an organized archive of photographs, ensuring easy access and retrieval for future use.
Collaborate with other team members to support the overall communication and outreach efforts of UNHCR.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in event and reportage photography, with a strong portfolio showcasing relevant work.
Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Bridge for image editing and processing.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to direct subjects and obtain consents in a respectful manner.
Excellent communication skills in both English and Arabic, with fluency in both languages being essential.
Familiarity with IPTC metadata standards and best practices for digital photography.
Educational Background: A degree in photography, visual arts, or a related field is preferred, although equivalent experience may be considered. Additional certifications in photography or digital media are a plus.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of professional photography experience, particularly in event and reportage settings. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in humanitarian contexts is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory. Knowledge of additional languages is considered an asset but not required.
