Job Overview:
The Emergency Coordinator position is crucial for the implementation and coordination of FAO's emergency operations and strategies in countries affected by crises. The role involves providing leadership in emergency and rehabilitation efforts, ensuring that the organization's response aligns with its emergency response priorities. The Emergency Coordinator will work closely with various stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies, NGOs, and donors, to promote resilience and effective programming. This position requires a strong focus on data analytics, evidence-based learning, and strategic advocacy to mobilize resources and deliver impactful programs at scale. The Emergency Coordinator will also be responsible for developing and monitoring emergency response strategies, ensuring that the specific needs of vulnerable populations are addressed, and that FAO's contributions to humanitarian response plans are effectively coordinated.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Emergency Coordinator will lead the Emergency Response Team, establishing operational objectives and monitoring progress through regular planning meetings. Key responsibilities include promoting FAO's resilience programs, reviewing relevant documents to identify issues, assisting in policy development, preparing written outputs, conducting outreach activities, coordinating budget and funding activities, and ensuring FAO's active participation in humanitarian coordination mechanisms. The role also involves developing emergency response strategies, overseeing operational activities, setting up emergency assessment teams, coordinating project formulation, and ensuring technical assistance is available to the Emergency Response Team. The Emergency Coordinator will also manage the demobilization of the Emergency Response Team and transition to country-led programming, while ensuring the safety and well-being of FAO personnel during emergencies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in fields such as business administration, public administration, political science, social science, agronomy, or natural resources management. Additionally, a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in public or private sectors related to programming, planning, and technical cooperation in food and agriculture is required. Experience in developing countries, particularly those vulnerable to disasters or emergencies, is essential. A working knowledge of English or French at level C is mandatory, while knowledge of a second FAO language would be an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as business administration, public administration, political science, social science, agronomy, or natural resources management. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of emergency response and resilience programming in the context of food and agriculture.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least seven years of relevant experience in programming, planning, and technical cooperation in food and agriculture. This experience should include work in developing countries, particularly in contexts vulnerable to disaster or emergency risks. Experience in formulating policy and managing field operations at an international level is highly desirable, as is familiarity with international humanitarian architecture and emergency operations.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English or French at level C is mandatory for this position. Additionally, limited knowledge (level B) of a second FAO language, such as Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, or Russian, would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in diverse contexts.
