Job Overview: The internship project focuses on integrating OG-Core, an overlapping-generations macroeconomic model, into MUIO, the Modelling User Interface for OSeMOSYS. Interns will work under the guidance of an Economic Affairs Officer, contributing to the development of a user interface that enhances accessibility and usability for policymakers. The role involves designing dashboards, implementing visualization components, and creating documentation to support users in navigating the integrated system effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for designing and implementing a user-friendly interface based on MUIO. Key duties include building dashboards for scenario design, selection, and execution; implementing visualization components to explore results; adding usability features such as defaults, tooltips, and guardrails; implementing packaging and distribution workflows; setting up CI/CD pipelines; and writing documentation and onboarding materials. The intern will work in person at the Secretariat Building and can choose between half-time or full-time work arrangements to accommodate their schedule.

While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a relevant field of study is necessary. A strong academic background in computer science, information technology, or software engineering is essential for this internship.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required, applicants should possess a solid understanding of programming and data handling. Familiarity with Python and its data handling libraries (such as NumPy, pandas, and xArray), as well as knowledge of JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and other GUI-related technologies, is crucial for success in this role. Experience with GitHub is also necessary to manage code and collaborate effectively.
Languages: The job posting does not specify any mandatory languages. However, proficiency in English is typically expected in a UN internship context, given the organization's international nature and the need for effective communication within a diverse team.
Additional Notes: Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations, and all costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is located may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer. The United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring a fair and transparent selection process.
