Job Overview: The STRIDES Morocco Project Director is responsible for leading and directing the implementation of the STRIDES Activity in Morocco, which aims to enhance the capacity of laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. This role encompasses a wide range of managerial responsibilities, including overseeing personnel, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with operational standards. The Project Director will act as the primary liaison with U.S. Government counterparts, the Moroccan government, and other global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security stakeholders, ensuring that the project aligns with national and international health objectives. The position requires the development and execution of annual work plans, monitoring and evaluation activities, and technical and financial reporting, all aimed at achieving the project's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The STRIDES Morocco Project Director will be accountable for planning, directing, and coordinating the implementation of the STRIDES Activity. Key responsibilities include establishing work plans and teams, managing technical and operational staff, and ensuring compliance with policies. The Project Director will foster safe and equitable work environments, manage relationships with government counterparts and partners, and serve as the primary contact for collaboration with various stakeholders. Additionally, the Project Director will lead the in-country team, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality reports and deliverables, providing guidance and training to staff, and supporting their professional development. The role also involves onboarding new staff and ensuring they understand the organizational values and standards.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices, particularly in the context of global health security. Excellent project management skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with clients and staff. Strong influencing and negotiation skills are required, as well as experience in developing partnerships and managing relationships with government and implementing partners. Leadership experience in a matrixed organization is preferred, along with strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree or its international equivalent in public health or a related health field is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred. Project management certification is also preferred, indicating a formal recognition of the candidate's project management skills and knowledge.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing staff, ideally within global health security or international development projects. Candidates should have a strong understanding of U.S. Department of State regulations and experience in managing health projects related to infectious diseases. Familiarity with the Moroccan health context and experience working with the Ministry of Health are strongly desired.
Languages: Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory, along with proficiency in either Arabic or French. These language skills are crucial for effective communication with local partners and stakeholders in Morocco.
