Job Overview: The Communications & Visibility Officer (Multimedia & Digital Content) position at UNESCO Sudan is designed to enhance the organization's visibility and communication strategies across various sectors, including Education, Culture, Sciences, and Communication & Information. The role is critical in translating complex programmatic activities into engaging narratives that resonate with diverse audiences, including partners, donors, and the general public. The officer will be responsible for creating high-quality multimedia content that aligns with UNESCO's communication standards and effectively showcases the impact of its programs. This position is particularly important during a time of operational challenges in Sudan, where effective communication can significantly influence public perception and support for UNESCO's initiatives. The officer will work closely with the Head of Office and the Communications Focal Point to ensure that all communication efforts are coherent, strategic, and impactful, thereby reinforcing UNESCO's mandate and values.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications & Visibility Officer will undertake a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing UNESCO Sudan's public communication and visibility. Key responsibilities include:
Developing, drafting, and producing bilingual (Arabic and English) communication content for digital platforms, including social media posts, website stories, press releases, newsletters, and visibility materials.
Uploading, updating, and editing communications materials on UNESCO Sudan's digital platforms.
Translating technical program activities into accessible narratives that highlight impact and partnerships.
Planning and implementing social media content calendars aligned with thematic campaigns and international observances.
Capturing and curating professional photography and video content documenting events and community engagement activities.
Producing short-form multimedia products for digital dissemination and donor communication.
Designing visual communication materials in compliance with UNESCO's Visual Identity Guidelines.
Monitoring and managing engagement on social media channels, proposing timely responses in line with communication protocols.
Supporting media outreach by maintaining a local media contact database and preparing press kits. 1
Tracking and analyzing digital performance indicators and preparing monthly visibility reports. 1
Submitting a consolidated Monthly Communications and Visibility Package documenting communication outputs and digital engagement results.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Digital Media, Public Information, International Relations, or a related field. An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a relevant field is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public information, media, or digital content production, preferably within international organizations, NGOs, UN agencies, or development and humanitarian contexts. Demonstrated hands-on experience in multimedia content production, including photography, videography, and digital storytelling for institutional or program-related communications is essential. Proven experience managing organizational social media platforms and digital communication channels is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s) in a relevant field such as Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Digital Media, Public Information, or International Relations. An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in a related field is considered an asset, indicating a higher level of expertise and understanding of the complexities involved in communications and public information.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in communications, public information, media, or digital content production. Candidates should have experience working in international organizations, NGOs, UN agencies, or within development and humanitarian contexts. Demonstrated experience in multimedia content production, managing social media platforms, and drafting clear communication products is essential. The ability to work effectively in complex environments and manage multiple priorities is also crucial.
Languages: Excellent knowledge (written and spoken) of English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of other official UN languages would be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate with a broader audience and engage with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is for a duration of 7 to 11 months, and it is open to Sudanese candidates. The role is based in Port Sudan and Khartoum, and the application deadline is set for midnight Sudan time on 21.03.202
