Job Overview:
The Armed Violence Reduction Specialist will play a crucial role under the management of the Area Manager, focusing on four main responsibilities: contributing to national and regional strategies aligned with global objectives, providing capacity building and technical assistance on Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE) and Victim Assistance (VA), representing and promoting HI’s technical expertise in Mine Action, and ensuring the development of new AVR projects in the region. The position is particularly relevant given the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Sudan, which has seen a significant increase in the need for humanitarian assistance due to armed conflict and displacement. The specialist will be involved in scaling up HI’s response in various sectors, including physical rehabilitation and community engagement, particularly in areas affected by conflict such as Darfur and Khartoum.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Armed Violence Reduction Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Contributing to the development and implementation of national and regional strategies that align with HI’s global strategies.
  • Providing capacity building and technical assistance on EORE and VA to local partners and stakeholders.
  • Representing HI in external relations and advocacy efforts, strengthening partnerships with national and global stakeholders.
  • Developing major opportunities or new AVR projects in the region, ensuring alignment with local needs and global priorities.
  • Engaging with communities to promote awareness and understanding of risk education and victim assistance.
  • Ensuring quality assurance and quality control in project implementation.
  • Writing proposals and project reports to secure funding and support for AVR initiatives.
  • Networking and building alliances with relevant organizations and stakeholders to enhance the impact of HI’s work.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Armed Violence Reduction Specialist position should possess the following qualifications:
  • Strong expertise in risk education and victim assistance, with a proven track record in these areas.
  • Proficient in capacity building and technical assistance related to AVR.
  • Strong community engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proficient in project intervention strategy and understanding of disability, gender, and age norms, as well as relevant legal frameworks and policies.
  • Experience in operational partnerships and networking, with a focus on alliance building.
  • Proficient in writing proposals and project reports to secure funding and support for initiatives.
  • Strong risk management skills, with the ability to navigate complex and challenging environments.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a relevant educational background, ideally holding a degree in a field related to humanitarian assistance, social sciences, international relations, or a similar discipline. Additional certifications or training in Mine Action, risk education, or victim assistance would be advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, ideally with at least 5 years of relevant work in humanitarian contexts, particularly in armed violence reduction, mine action, or related fields. Experience working in conflict-affected areas, especially in Sudan or similar environments, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic or other local languages would be considered an asset, enhancing communication and engagement with local communities.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a 3-month international contract starting in May 202
  • The contract includes various benefits such as social coverage adapted to the employee's situation, including unemployment insurance for EU nationals, a pension scheme, medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution, and repatriation insurance paid by HI. The salary starts at 2757€ gross per month, depending on experience, with additional per diem and hardship allowances. The position is unaccompanied, and housing will be provided in a collective guesthouse, covered by HI.
