Job Overview:

Interns will engage in a variety of tasks that are critical to the organization's mission, particularly focusing on internet research and information governance.   • Interns will be expected to conduct targeted open-source research, analyze political, economic, social, technological, and legal issues related to the Syrian situation, and assist in developing frameworks for information governance and data analysis. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the IIIM has access to accurate and relevant information, which is essential for its investigative and prosecutorial functions. Interns will also be responsible for compiling their research into a final presentation, which will be used exclusively by the IIIM, thereby contributing directly to the organization's efforts in addressing serious crimes in Syria.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that include: conducting targeted open-source research and analysis; summarizing and synthesizing relevant literature related to the Syrian conflict; assisting with information governance tasks; performing data analysis; developing scripts as needed; compiling research findings into a comprehensive final presentation for the IIIM; completing assigned tasks accurately and on time; meeting deadlines and responding promptly to instructions; maintaining confidentiality regarding all records and information accessed during the internship; working both independently and collaboratively as part of a team; and demonstrating professionalism and respect for colleagues and stakeholders. Interns will also be expected to produce a final presentation that encapsulates their research and analysis, which will be a key deliverable for the internship.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for this internship should possess relevant coursework or academic background in fields such as international relations, journalism, law, international politics, information governance, machine learning, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">information security, privacy law, data protection, digital forensics, data science, engineering, software engineering, or closely related disciplines. While no prior experience is necessary, candidates should demonstrate a willingness to engage with diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives. The ability to interact successfully with individuals from various backgrounds is essential, as is a commitment to understanding and respecting differing opinions and views. Educational Background:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).   • Interns are responsible for all expenses related to the internship, including securing adequate insurance coverage. The IIIM will provide necessary information and supporting documents for visa applications for in-person internships, but the responsibility for obtaining a visa lies with the selected candidate. Interns must maintain confidentiality regarding any unpublished information obtained during the internship and are bound by the same duties and obligations as staff members. There is no expectation of employment with the United Nations or the IIIM upon completion of the internship.
