Job Overview:
The Relocation Project Manager position is a critical role within the UNDP, specifically focused on managing the relocation process for the One UN House in Pretoria, South Africa. The individual in this role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the relocation project, ensuring that it is completed on time, within budget, and meets the required standards of quality. This position requires a strong understanding of project management principles, as well as the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies, and contractors. The Relocation Project Manager will also be expected to develop and implement project plans, monitor progress, and report on the status of the project to senior management. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Relocation Project Manager include but are not limited to:
  • Developing a comprehensive project plan for the relocation process, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinating with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, government officials, and contractors to ensure smooth execution of the relocation.
  • Monitoring project progress and making adjustments as necessary to ensure that deadlines are met.
  • Preparing regular reports on project status for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to address them.
  • Ensuring compliance with UNDP policies and procedures throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitating communication between all parties involved in the relocation process.
  • Conducting post-relocation evaluations to assess the success of the project and identify areas for improvement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in project management, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects. A thorough understanding of procurement processes and experience working within the UN system or similar international organizations is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are also essential for this role.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in project management, business administration, international relations, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an advantage. Professional certifications in project management (such as PMP or PRINCE2) are also highly desirable.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in project management, with a focus on relocation or infrastructure projects. Experience working in a multicultural environment and familiarity with UNDP operations and procedures will be considered a significant asset. Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and management is also essential for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the South African context, would be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

This position is for a fixed-term contract of 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and performance. The role is full-time and based in Pretoria, South Africa.
