Job Overview: The Protection Analysis Specialist will play a crucial role within the Danish Refugee Council's protection program team, specifically under the guidance of the Protection Manager for Algeria, Libya, and Tunisia. This position is primarily focused on leading the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative protection data collected by DRC and its partners. The specialist will be responsible for developing narrative reports and visual data representations that effectively communicate findings and trends. Collaboration with the Protection Manager and partners is essential for the development of data collection tools and methodologies, as well as conducting necessary desk research and data analysis. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to program development and fundraising efforts, ensuring that the protection program is well-supported and aligned with the organization's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Protection Analysis Specialist will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis for DRC's protection initiatives; developing data collection methodologies and tools in coordination with the Protection Manager and technical focal points; leading the coding and labeling of variables for qualitative analysis; analyzing quantitative data from protection monitoring initiatives; creating narrative reports that monitor ongoing trends; visualizing data through infographics in collaboration with the Information Management specialist; collecting and storing relevant secondary information for protection analysis; contributing to internal briefing notes, snapshots, and ad hoc reports; training DRC partner staff on data collection methodologies; and providing input for fundraising efforts through concept notes and proposals. The specialist will also support the team with various tasks related to the protection programming.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate a strong background in both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, particularly in humanitarian settings. An in-depth understanding of protection issues in these contexts is essential. Candidates should also have experience in creating information management products. Desirable qualifications include experience in authoring research products, familiarity with qualitative analysis software, and an understanding of current mixed migration debates and dynamics in the region. Previous experience working with international NGOs is also considered an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates are expected to possess a relevant educational background, ideally in fields such as social sciences, international relations, or a related discipline. A strong academic foundation will support the analytical and research skills necessary for this role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of experience in a research or academic context, with a focus on data analysis and protection issues. This experience should ideally include working in humanitarian settings and engaging with vulnerable populations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all applications and communications will be conducted in this language. Proficiency in Arabic or French would be considered advantageous, given the regional context and the populations served by DRC.
