Job Overview: The Senior Technical Officer, Child Health will play a pivotal role in the EpiC MNCH+N Project in Mozambique, specifically focusing on enhancing child, maternal, neonatal, immunization, and nutrition health outcomes. This position is crucial for increasing access to high-quality health services in the provinces of Nampula and Zambezia. The officer will oversee child health activities in health facilities and communities, ensuring the implementation of training, guidance, and supportive supervision for high-impact practices. The role requires adapting child health strategies based on specific data from health facilities and districts, thereby ensuring that interventions are tailored to meet local needs. The Senior Technical Officer will report directly to the Technical Advisor for Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health, and will be responsible for providing technical expertise, monitoring protocols, and contributing to the development of work plans and reports.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Technical Officer will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties including: providing technical expertise and supervision in the implementation and monitoring of Child Health services; offering guidance and training to project staff and partners; maintaining protocols, data sets, and training materials; conducting implementation analyses to identify areas for improvement; developing and monitoring technical work plans; and contributing to the creation of quarterly and annual reports. The officer will also ensure that all activities align with the organization's strategy and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and will work closely with the technical team to ensure integrated and comprehensive implementation of child health initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or related fields. A medical degree, preferably as an obstetrician/gynecologist or a senior nurse specializing in pregnancy, labor, delivery, and neonatal care, is highly desirable. Additionally, a minimum of 6 years of experience in clinical care and public health is required, particularly in SMNI programs associated with US government-funded projects or international development organizations. Proven leadership skills in supervising and evaluating staff performance, along with experience in designing and implementing training for maternal and child health services, are essential. Knowledge of high-impact interventions in maternal, neonatal, and child health is also necessary, with a preference for candidates who have work experience in Zambezia and Nampula.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as Public Health, Social Sciences, or Development Studies. A medical degree is preferred, particularly in obstetrics and gynecology or nursing with a specialization in maternal and neonatal care. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of child health and the necessary interventions to improve health outcomes.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in clinical care and public health, particularly in programs focused on maternal and child health.
