Job Overview:
The Finance Assistant position at FHI 360 is integral to the financial operations of a project aimed at enhancing nutrition, neonatal, maternal, and child health outcomes in the Zambezia and Nampula provinces of Mozambique. The role involves supporting the Finance Officer in daily financial tasks, which include processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring compliance with both FHI 360 policies and Mozambican laws. The Finance Assistant will play a crucial role in institutionalizing a culture of quality improvement in collaboration with government partners, thereby contributing to the overall success of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks including processing and initiating payments through online banking, ensuring all transactions are supported by proper documentation and approvals. They will maintain updated cashbooks, ledgers, and financial trackers, and enter payments into the accounting system accurately and timely. The role also involves monitoring and reconciling Accounts Payable (AP), vendor accounts, and outstanding balances. The Finance Assistant must ensure that all financial documentation is organized, filed, and archived properly, and maintain complete documentation for audits and donor reviews. Additional responsibilities include preparing bank and petty cash reconciliations, performing weekly cash counts, and supporting monthly financial close activities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. A minimum of 4 years of professional experience in financial management or accounting within international organizations, NGOs, or donor-funded projects is required. Demonstrated experience with international donor financial regulations, particularly USAID, is preferred. Knowledge of Mozambican tax and financial legislation is essential, along with experience in financial management systems and internal controls.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a closely related field. This foundational education is crucial for understanding the financial principles and practices that will be applied in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience in financial management or accounting, particularly within international organizations, NGOs, or donor-funded projects. This experience should include familiarity with international donor financial regulations and practices, which is critical for ensuring compliance and effective financial management.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Additionally, a basic knowledge of English is required, which will facilitate communication with international stakeholders and enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse teams.
