Job Overview:
The Nutrition Technical Officer position is part of the EpiC MNCH project, which aims to enhance the quality of nutrition, neonatal, maternal, and child health outcomes, as well as immunization efforts in Mozambique, specifically in the Zambezia and Nampula provinces. The role involves working closely with government partners to foster a culture of quality improvement in nutrition services. The Technical Officer will be responsible for planning and implementing nutrition activities both in health facilities and within the community. This includes providing technical support and training to government and partner organizations, ensuring that nutrition services are delivered effectively and in compliance with national standards. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to monitor and improve the quality of nutrition care and training initiatives, making it essential for the officer to have a strong understanding of public health and nutrition programming.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nutrition Technical Officer will support the Senior Nutrition Technical Officer in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of nutrition services at both health facility and community levels. Key responsibilities include: providing hands-on technical support for maternal nutrition and infant and young child feeding (IYCF) initiatives; planning and delivering nutrition training and mentoring for service providers; strengthening adherence to national nutrition standards; applying quality improvement approaches in service delivery; collaborating with project staff and government counterparts; representing the project in provincial technical working groups; supporting data collection and analysis for nutrition indicators; and contributing to the development of work plans and reports. The officer will also work closely with community nutrition officers to ensure integrated and comprehensive nutrition interventions.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, or a closely related health field. Preferred qualifications include experience as a nutritionist or public health nutritionist, or as a nurse or midwife with relevant experience in nutrition and maternal and child health (MNCH). A minimum of 4 years of experience in nutrition is required, with a strong understanding of public health programs. Candidates should have experience in supervising program staff, monitoring and evaluating performance, and familiarity with national nutrition guidelines and protocols. Experience in training and mentoring at the district and health facility levels is essential, as is the ability to establish effective working relationships with government and community stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, or Medicine is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in nutrition or public health will be preferred, particularly those with hands-on experience in nutrition programming.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in nutrition, with a strong background in public health and maternal and child health programs. Candidates should have experience in direct supervision of staff and in monitoring and evaluating program performance. Familiarity with the specific context of Nampula and Zambezia provinces is highly desirable, as is experience in designing and implementing training programs.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the local language is considered an advantage, enhancing the officer's ability to engage with community stakeholders effectively.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to involve travel up to 50% of the time. The hiring salary range for this role is between USD 34,000 and 43,000 annually, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
