Job Overview:
The External Affairs Officer position at the World Bank Group is a critical role within the External and Corporate Relations Vice-Presidency (ECR). This position is designed for individuals with a strong background in media relations and a deep understanding of international development issues. The officer will be responsible for executing communications strategies, managing media relations, and monitoring reputational risks associated with media coverage. The role requires a proactive approach to media engagement, particularly in regional markets, and involves collaboration with key development partners. The officer will also contribute to the development of communications plans for major initiatives and events, ensuring that the World Bank's messaging is effectively communicated to various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The External Affairs Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: serving as the primary media relations contact for the World Bank, designing and implementing media relations strategies, and monitoring media coverage to assess reputational risks. The officer will prepare briefing materials for senior management engagements, handle media requests, and coordinate logistics for press briefings and public appearances. Additionally, the officer will contribute to the planning and execution of communications-related activities, assess media-related reputational risks, and collaborate with internal teams to develop risk mitigation strategies. This role requires strong organizational skills and the ability to work across multiple teams to achieve effective communication outcomes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree and at least five years of professional experience in fields such as Communications, Political Science, Economics, International Relations/Public Affairs, or Journalism. Experience with multilateral organizations and international financial institutions is preferred. A proven track record in strategic media management, including both traditional and digital strategies, is essential. Candidates should have established contacts within the media and experience managing high-level communications. Skills in assessing reputational risks and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in diverse teams are also required.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Communications, Political Science, Economics, International Relations/Public Affairs, Journalism, or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered, particularly for candidates with extensive relevant experience in the field.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of professional experience in communications or related fields. Experience working with multilateral organizations, development, and international financial institutions is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to manage communications strategies and media relations effectively, with a focus on high-level engagements and strategic messaging.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in additional languages is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
