Job Overview: The Engineering Supervisor position at the World Bank is a critical role responsible for overseeing all plant operations within the Bank's Headquarters Campus in Washington, DC. This position entails managing a team of Engineer Mechanics and Operating Engineers, ensuring that all engineering systems operate efficiently and effectively. The supervisor will be accountable for the implementation of a comprehensive preventive maintenance program, addressing service requests, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining a safe and functional environment for all building occupants. The Engineering Supervisor will work closely with various stakeholders, including Project Managers and Building Managers, to ensure that all engineering systems are maintained to the highest standards, thereby supporting the Bank's mission to create a world free of poverty on a livable planet.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Engineering Supervisor will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: ensuring the continuous operation of engineering systems, developing and implementing an annual preventive maintenance program, reviewing construction plans for quality control, coordinating with project and building managers, assisting in budget development, monitoring utility expenditures, advising on HVAC and plumbing service interruptions, and maintaining a client-focused approach with building occupants. Additionally, the supervisor will direct and evaluate the performance of engineering staff, providing coaching and career development support as needed. The role requires a strong emphasis on communication, teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Engineering Supervisor position must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, along with at least two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of fifteen years of experience in the operation and maintenance of physical plants for large office buildings or similar facilities is required. Additionally, candidates must hold a 3rd Class DC Steam Engineer's license or an equivalent certification. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of mechanical equipment and control systems, proven supervisory skills, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment. Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS), particularly Siemens Apogee and Desigo, as well as experience with facilities management systems, is highly desirable.
Educational Background: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, facilities management, or a related discipline. Candidates with equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in the principles of engineering and facilities management, enabling the candidate to effectively oversee plant operations and maintenance.
Experience: The Engineering Supervisor must have a substantial level of experience, specifically at least fifteen years in the operation and maintenance of physical plants for large office buildings or equivalent facilities. This experience should include a strong background in managing engineering systems and leading teams in a complex operational environment. Candidates should demonstrate a history of successfully completing projects on time and within budget, as well as experience in a supervisory role.

Additional Notes: This position is a local recruitment opportunity with a term duration of three years. The Engineering Supervisor will work full-time during the evening shift hours of 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
