Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Specialist in Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) will play a crucial role in supporting UN Women Mozambique’s humanitarian and resilience programming, particularly in Cabo Delgado. This position is integral to a KOICA-funded flagship project aimed at promoting the socioeconomic recovery and resilience of internally displaced and returnee women and girls in conflict-affected districts. The specialist will contribute to the development of strategies, implementation of project activities, and coordination with various stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of results. The role requires a strong understanding of socioeconomic and humanitarian trends affecting women and girls, as well as the ability to provide technical assistance and capacity development to project partners. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring and reporting on project progress, supporting advocacy efforts, and contributing to resource mobilization initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Contribute technically to the development of WEE-Humanitarian programme strategies by providing inputs to the design and formulation of the County Office’s Strategy Note, Annual Work Plan, and programme/project proposals. Regularly update the team on socioeconomic and humanitarian trends affecting women and girls in Cabo Delgado. Liaise with relevant government and local counterparts for coordination and joint planning. Prepare briefing notes and background materials as required. 2) Support the implementation and management of the project with a focus on WEE by providing inputs to annual work and budget plans, supporting the implementation and follow-up of project activities, and managing civil society implementing partners. Review partner narrative reports and ensure alignment with financial reporting. 3) Provide technical assistance for the capacity development of project partners by offering guidance during activity implementation and monitoring, maintaining working relationships, and facilitating capacity-building support and training. 4) Provide technical support for monitoring and reporting by monitoring project progress, supporting data collection, and preparing mission reports and donor reports. 5) Support advocacy, knowledge building, and communication of the project by contributing to the development of background documents, briefs, and communication materials, and coordinating advocacy campaigns and events. 6) Contribute to building and strengthening partnerships and resource mobilization efforts by preparing relevant documentation, participating in donor meetings, and providing inputs to resource mobilization strategies. 7) Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organisation.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of gender issues, particularly in the context of humanitarian action and women’s economic empowerment. Candidates should possess good program formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation skills, as well as knowledge of Results-Based Management. The ability to gather and interpret data, reach logical conclusions, and present findings is essential. Candidates should also have good analytical skills and knowledge of Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG).

Educational Background:
A degree in social sciences, gender studies, international development, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees are preferred and may be considered an asset for the position.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in program management, particularly in gender equality, women’s empowerment, or humanitarian contexts. Experience working with civil society organizations and knowledge of the humanitarian-development-peace nexus is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Portuguese is an asset. Additional languages relevant to the local context may also be beneficial.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.
