Job Overview: The Intensive Case Management (ICM) Casework Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the ICM team by providing strengths-based, client-centered case management services to a diverse range of vulnerable clients, including refugees, asylees, and other eligible individuals. This position is particularly focused on assisting those who are at heightened risk, such as single-headed households, survivors of domestic violence, older individuals, youth without guardians, and members of the LGBTQ community. The Casework Assistant will work collaboratively with clients, colleagues, and external partners to identify and address barriers to service access, ensuring that each client receives tailored support that aligns with their unique needs and preferences. The role requires a proactive approach to client engagement, as well as a commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all clients.
Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Intensive Case Management (ICM) Casework Assistant include, but are not limited to: assisting in the enrollment of clients and determining their eligibility for services; providing referrals for clients who are ineligible; developing self-sufficiency plans tailored to the needs of vulnerable clients; evaluating client progress biannually to assess goal attainment; helping clients navigate healthcare and social service systems, including applying for benefits and scheduling appointments; mapping community resources and making referrals to partners; providing extended orientation on various topics such as women’s health and transportation; conducting outreach to service providers to ensure comprehensive support for clients; responding to client crises in collaboration with the ICM team; assisting in financial assistance requests and tracking assistance in client files; maintaining accurate documentation of services in the IRC’s database; attending relevant trainings and meetings; and utilizing personal or public transportation to travel and transport clients as needed. The Casework Assistant may also train and lead volunteers and interns, and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Intensive Case Management (ICM) Casework Assistant position should possess a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field. Relevant professional experience working with similar populations and addressing client needs is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong relationship-building skills, diplomacy, and the ability to effectively network within a multi-cultural environment. A self-starter mentality with excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to prioritize and manage time effectively are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to utilize digital tools for data entry and research are also required. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle are necessary for this role.
Educational Background: The preferred educational background for this position is a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, or a related field of study. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of case management and the specific needs of vulnerable populations.
Experience: Candidates should have relevant professional experience working with populations similar to those served by the IRC, particularly in case management or social services. Experience in navigating healthcare and social service systems is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the challenges faced by refugees and asylees.
Languages: Fluency in English, both spoken and written, is required for this position. Proficiency in additional languages spoken by the client group is preferred, as it enhances communication and support for clients from diverse backgrounds.
Additional Notes: The position may involve a combination of standard office work, remote tasks, and fieldwork within the service delivery area. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. The compensation for this role ranges from $21.00 to $23.10 per hour, depending on various factors such as labor market conditions, job type, and individual candidate experience.
