Job Overview:
The Communications Officer position within the IMF's Communications Department, specifically in the Stakeholder Engagement Division (COMSE), is crucial for fostering understanding and support for the IMF's work. The role involves developing and implementing effective communication strategies that engage various stakeholders, including civil society, labor unions, think tanks, and academics. The officer will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with these stakeholders, ensuring that their perspectives are integrated into the Fund's policy and country work. This position requires a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, with a focus on enhancing the Fund's visibility and impact through strategic communication efforts. The officer will also prepare briefs and key messages for IMF Management, monitor stakeholder opinions, and collaborate with colleagues across departments to achieve communication objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of the Communications Officer include:
  • Contributing to the implementation of the Fund's communication strategy by devising and delivering effective engagement strategies for external stakeholders.
  • Supporting the Fund’s policy and country work through stakeholder engagement at various levels.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders and integrating their perspectives into the Fund's work.
  • Managing the planning, logistics, and delivery of engagement activities with external stakeholders, collaborating with other IMF departments and external partners.
  • Preparing briefs for IMF Management for stakeholder engagements, including talking points and key messages.
  • Monitoring and tracking stakeholder opinions and feedback to inform communication strategies.
  • Collaborating with colleagues across the Communications Department and other Fund departments to support stakeholder engagement objectives.
  • Actively participating in cross-cutting teams to support institutional communication priorities.

Required Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for the Communications Officer position include:
  • An advanced university degree in Communications, International Relations, Languages, or a related field, or a university degree supplemented by at least six years of relevant professional experience.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience at grade A08 or equivalent is also acceptable. Desired qualifications include a proven track record of relationship building with non-media stakeholders, strong project management and negotiation skills, excellent writing and editing abilities, and a good understanding of the IMF’s goals and operations. The candidate should also possess strong analytical skills to assess global and local political economic developments and adapt communication plans accordingly.

Educational Background:
Candidates are expected to have an advanced university degree in Communications, International Relations, Languages, or a related field. Alternatively, a university degree supplemented by significant professional experience in relevant fields is acceptable. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of international relations and effective communication strategies.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience, or at least two years of experience at grade A08 or equivalent. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, project management, and communication strategy development, particularly in contexts related to international finance and economic policy.

Languages:
