Job Overview: The Country Representative (CR) for PSI Ethiopia is a pivotal leadership role that requires an experienced, visionary, and strategic individual to guide the organization into its next chapter of transformative impact. The CR will be responsible for high-level representation, strategic program leadership, technical stewardship, and people management. This role involves anchoring PSI Ethiopia within the evolving health landscape of the country, ensuring alignment with national development priorities and PSI’s global strategy. The CR will also be tasked with expanding a robust funding portfolio by cultivating relationships with donors, government, and private sector partners, thereby positioning PSI as a key player in Ethiopia's health sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The CR will proactively cultivate and secure funding opportunities that align with PSI Ethiopia’s strategic vision and programmatic priorities. This includes identifying and pursuing new opportunities across various funding sources such as bilateral, multilateral, philanthropic, and private sectors. The CR will build and maintain strong relationships with institutional donors, foundations, UN agencies, government stakeholders, and implementing partners. Additionally, the CR will oversee the development of high-quality proposals and strategic donor engagement efforts to expand and diversify the organization’s health and development portfolio. The role also involves providing visionary leadership to steer PSI Ethiopia’s direction, ensuring compliance with funded projects, overseeing program budgets, and developing administrative policies that promote an ethical work environment. The CR will embody PSI’s values and foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability within the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field, with a Master's Degree (or international equivalent) in a related field such as MBA, MPA, or MPH preferred. A minimum of 10 years of senior-level leadership experience in public health or development programs, particularly in Ethiopia or similar contexts, is required. Candidates should also have at least 5 years of supervisory experience and demonstrated work experience in similar operating environments. Proven ability to navigate political and donor environments, engage with senior government officials, and lead high-stakes negotiations is essential. A strong track record in successful fundraising and managing complex donor portfolios is also required, along with fluency in English and excellent writing skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's Degree in a related area. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of public health and development programs, as well as for effectively managing the strategic direction of PSI Ethiopia.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of senior-level leadership experience in public health or development programs, with a strong emphasis on experience within Ethiopia or similar contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of navigating complex political and donor landscapes, engaging with high-level government officials, and successfully managing donor relationships and negotiations. Additionally, at least 5 years of supervisory experience is necessary to ensure effective team leadership and management.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent writing skills being essential for the role. Depending on the location and specific needs of the position, proficiency in additional foreign languages may be beneficial and is considered a valuable asset.
Additional Notes: This position is not an expat role and does not include an international allowance package. Applicants must have the legal right to live and work in Ethiopia, as PSI will not sponsor a visa for this role. The role may require 10-25% international travel.
