Job Overview:
The intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Communications Intern position is situated within the UN Resident Coordinator's Office (RCO) in Monrovia, Liberia. This role is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in a university program or have recently completed a degree in fields such as Journalism, Communications, or International Relations. The intern will work closely with the Communications and Advocacy Officer, providing essential support in various communication tasks. The intern's primary responsibilities will include assisting in media engagement, social media management, and ensuring that communications align with the UN's Joint Communications & Advocacy Strategy. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic international environment while contributing to the UN's mission of promoting sustainable development and effective communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive communications support to the RCO Communications Officer and the broader RCO team, which includes managing social media platforms, enhancing visibility, and facilitating public relations efforts.
  • Assist the Communications Officer in media engagement activities, which involve monitoring media coverage, developing a database of media contacts in Liberia, and preparing daily summaries of news relevant to the UN's work.
  • Collaborate with the UN Communication Group (UNCG) to ensure that all communications, including news releases, statements, and social media content, are consistent with the UN's Joint Communications & Advocacy Strategy.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative communication strategies that effectively convey the UN's messages and initiatives.
  • Support the organization of events and campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the UN's work and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in a university program (preferably at the junior or senior level) or have recently completed a bachelor's degree or equivalent in fields such as Journalism, Communications, Arts, Information Communications Technology, International Relations, or other related disciplines. The position requires strong analytical thinking, communication, and research skills, as well as proficiency in written and spoken English. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate good writing and editing abilities, along with proficiency in computer skills and knowledge of automated systems. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work effectively under pressure in an international setting.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should be pursuing or have completed a degree in a relevant field such as Journalism, Communications, Arts, Information Communications Technology, or International Relations. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of communication within an international organization like the UN.

Experience:
