Job Overview:
The National Expert on Socio-economic Statistics will be responsible for leading the design and implementation of methodologies for collecting, analyzing, and validating data on fish consumption patterns and their nutritional contributions across various systems, including marine, inland, and aquaculture. This role is critical for addressing data gaps in the fisheries sector and will involve providing technical leadership for Ghana's fisheries nutrition data initiative. The Expert will ensure that data generation processes are gender-responsive and environmentally sustainable, adhering to FAO's Environmental and Social Standards. Additionally, the position requires strengthening the institutional capacity of the Fisheries Commission and collaborating institutions through targeted training and knowledge transfer, which will support sustainable data management, analysis, and utilization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National Expert on Socio-economic Statistics include determining the sampling frame and calculating the sampling size, collaborating with key stakeholders to develop logistical plans for data collection, developing and validating survey tools and methodologies with the Technical Working Group (TWG), training enumerators, and ensuring quality assurance throughout the data collection process. The Expert will oversee household-level data collection and monitoring, lead data analyses and interpretation for technical reporting, draft and finalize technical reports and policy briefs based on validated data, organize and participate in stakeholder workshops, provide technical backstopping to FAO and the Fisheries Commission throughout the project cycle, and prepare quarterly progress reports and a comprehensive end-of-assignment report.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in statistics, economics, nutrition/public health/fisheries sciences, agricultural economics, or a related field. They should have at least seven years of relevant experience in economic analysis of agricultural and food consumption and nutrition content or related technical areas. Additionally, candidates must be nationals of Ghana and have a working knowledge of English.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree, specifically a master’s degree or equivalent, in fields such as statistics, economics, nutrition/public health, fisheries sciences, agricultural economics, or related disciplines. This advanced education is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the job effectively.
