Job Overview: The position of Specialist in Responsible Global Value Chains is crucial for the FAO's Markets and Trade Division (EST), which is dedicated to monitoring and analyzing agricultural commodity markets and trade dynamics. The Specialist will play a key role in facilitating multi-stakeholder working groups, particularly focusing on the World Banana Forum (WBF). This role involves promoting decent work and fair distribution of value along global banana supply chains, addressing socio-economic challenges faced by producers, and ensuring sustainable practices within the industry. The Specialist will be responsible for coordinating project implementation, conducting research and analysis on socio-economic sustainability issues, and supporting capacity development activities in member countries. The position requires a proactive approach to managing operations, organizing meetings, and developing communication materials to enhance the visibility and impact of the WBF's initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Specialist will have a diverse set of responsibilities including: facilitating and managing the operations of the WBF’s Working Groups on Labour Rights and Distribution of Value; liaising with members to organize meetings and prepare necessary documentation; supporting project implementation and technical assistance for capacity development; conducting research on policies affecting the banana industry; organizing knowledge-sharing activities; developing reports and papers related to the WBF's mandate; coordinating efforts to increase WBF membership and partnerships; and ensuring compliance with FAO standards in all communications and materials produced. The Specialist will also be expected to carry out any additional organizational and technical work as required by the WBF.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Social and Economic Sciences or a related field from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO. For those with a bachelor's degree, an additional two years of relevant professional experience is required. A minimum of two years of experience in platform/project/working group facilitation is essential. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of responsible business conduct, corporate social responsibility, and ethical trading practices. Familiarity with the FAO's working environment and the fruit sector is advantageous. Excellent time management, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work under pressure are also critical for success in this role.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields such as law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law and Development, Business Administration, Economics, Social Protection, International Business, or Public Policy with a focus on Sustainable Development. Experience: The position requires at least two years of relevant experience in facilitating platforms, projects, or working groups.
