This role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders, including disability organizations, to gather insights and feedback that will inform the development of a good practice note aimed at guiding project teams in incorporating disability-inclusive approaches in their work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: reviewing the Environment and Social Framework (ESF) and associated guidance notes to identify current provisions related to disability; mapping disability considerations across the environmental and social assessment and management process, which includes screening, risk classification, baseline data collection, impact assessment, and stakeholder engagement; analyzing feedback from disability organizations and integrating key insights into the good practice note; aligning findings with ADB's broader social inclusion frameworks; compiling good practices from ADB operations and other multilateral development banks; drafting a concise primer outlining practical steps for integrating disability considerations; supporting internal consultations with specialists in safeguards, social development, and disability inclusion; and preparing supporting materials such as presentations or knowledge-sharing briefs as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program or PhD in fields such as social development, disability studies, sociology, public policy, environmental or social sciences, or related disciplines. A strong understanding of disability inclusion and accessibility standards is essential, with familiarity with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) being an advantage. Candidates should possess strong research, analytical, and writing skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills in English. The ability to synthesize technical content and engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes enrollment in a master's degree program or PhD in relevant fields such as social development, disability studies, sociology, public policy, environmental or social sciences, or other related areas. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the complexities of disability inclusion and social assessments.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have preferably 2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
