Job Overview: The Senior Editor position is situated within the Information Access Unit of the Office of the Secretary at ADB's headquarters in Manila. This role is pivotal in providing senior editorial leadership for Board documents, ensuring clarity and coherence in communication. The Senior Editor will oversee junior team members and will be responsible for the editing and circulation of Board documents, information classification, and supporting public disclosure in line with ADB's Access to Information Policy. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the modernization of information management processes, including the integration of digital workflows and the adoption of AI-enabled tools. The Senior Editor will also play a key role in knowledge management initiatives and assist in organizing major institutional events, thereby contributing to ADB's mission of fostering prosperity in Asia.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Editor will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Editing and Circulation: Provide senior-level editing of Board documents, enhancing clarity, coherence, and narrative quality. Offer technical guidance and mentoring to staff and project teams on editorial quality and document preparation. Ensure timely circulation of documents to the Board of Directors, adhering to ADB standards and style guidelines.
Information Classification, Disclosure, and Governance: Act as the focal point for information classification, advising departments on classification issues and supporting consistent institutional practices. Lead capacity development activities on information classification and guide staff on disclosure procedures in accordance with the AIP.
Digital Transformation and Innovation: Contribute to the design and improvement of digital workflows, supporting the adoption of AI-enabled tools for editorial and information management purposes. Identify opportunities to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Knowledge Management and Institutional Support: Support departmental knowledge management initiatives and assist in organizing major institutional events, including the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors. Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in fields such as English, Journalism, Communications, International Affairs, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or related areas. Alternatively, a university degree in these fields combined with at least 5 years of specialized experience relevant to the position may be considered. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant editing experience in a professional capacity, with international experience in several countries, preferably in developing nations. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are essential, and familiarity with ADB's Competency Framework for Technical International Staff grade 2 (TI2) is recommended.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in English, Journalism, Communications, International Affairs, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or related fields. A university degree in these areas, along with significant relevant experience, may also be acceptable. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of editorial work and information management within a multilateral development context.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of relevant editing experience in a professional setting. Candidates should have demonstrated expertise in editing high-level documents and possess international experience, ideally having worked in various countries, particularly in developing regions. Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills required for the role. Additional Notes: This appointment is a fixed-term position for an initial period of 3 years, with the possibility of extension for up to 2 additional years, conversion to a regular appointment, or termination at the end of the initial period based on ADB's needs and the staff member's performance. The role is full-time and requires relocation to Manila, with all reasonable relocation expenses covered.
