Job Overview: The Driver position is integral to the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) project, where the individual will be responsible for the safe transportation of project staff, clients, and visitors to various locations. The role requires not only driving but also assisting passengers during entry and exit from the vehicle, ensuring their comfort and safety. The driver will be expected to maintain the vehicle in excellent condition, which includes regular cleaning and ensuring that all maintenance and repair work is conducted timely. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the project team by ensuring that transportation needs are met efficiently and safely, thereby contributing to the overall success of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for transporting project staff, consultants, and visitors to designated locations as per the project’s requirements. Key responsibilities include ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of the vehicle, performing day-to-day maintenance such as oil changes and inspections, and making arrangements for major repairs when necessary. The driver must keep all vehicle documentation up to date, including insurance and vehicle logs. Planning routes based on schedules or ad-hoc requests is essential, as is ensuring that all passengers adhere to road safety regulations. The driver may also be required to fulfill special requests, such as picking up and delivering items or running errands, and may need to provide protection for clients in high-risk areas. Additional duties may be assigned by the supervisor as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and a clean driving record. A trade test certificate is also required. The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols. The ability to communicate effectively and follow instructions is essential, as well as a commitment to providing excellent service to passengers. The candidate should demonstrate reliability and punctuality, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Educational Background: A High School Diploma or GED is required for this position. Equivalent qualifications may also be considered. The educational background should include knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance, as well as an understanding of road safety regulations.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years of related driving experience is required. Candidates should have experience operating large vehicles and a proven track record of safe driving. Experience in a similar role within a nonprofit or international organization is preferred, but not mandatory. An equivalent combination of experience and training may also be considered.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both spoken and written. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and clients. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, depending on the project requirements.
