Job Overview:
The intern will work under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief of the Political Analysis and Programme Development Unit (PAPDU). The primary functions of this position include supporting the collection and analysis of data, assisting in conference activities, and contributing to the development of communication materials. The intern will be involved in delivering timely, gender-informed analysis of political trends, synthesizing inputs from Regional and Country Offices into data-driven projections that will be used for strategic planning and policy positioning. The role also includes supporting the development of analytical briefs, background documents, and country snapshots for specific regions and countries through targeted qualitative research. The intern will gain valuable insights into UN Women’s work at both the country and regional levels, as well as its engagement within the UN system, while enhancing their understanding of current policy and program issues affecting women and girls.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's responsibilities will include supporting the delivery of timely, gender-informed analysis of political trends; synthesizing inputs from Regional and Country Offices into data-driven projections; developing analytical briefs, background documents, and country snapshots; conducting targeted qualitative research; supporting cross-regional learning events and knowledge management tools; assisting in data collection and desk research; preparing background documents for meetings and engagements with partners; organizing side-events at intergovernmental meetings; preparing presentations using tools like PowerPoint; and maintaining the team’s SharePoint knowledge hub. The intern will also be expected to work collaboratively in a multicultural setting and contribute to the overall objectives of the PAPDU.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have university studies in disciplines such as gender, statistics, social sciences, public policies, social work, law, or other relevant subjects. They must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within a two-year period of graduation; or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program which is part of a degree program and undertake the internship as part of the program requirements.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes university studies in relevant fields such as gender studies, statistics, social sciences, public policies, social work, law, or similar disciplines. Candidates must be either currently enrolled in a graduate program, in their final year of undergraduate studies, or have graduated within the last two years. Additionally, candidates enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program that includes an internship component are also eligible.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant academic experience, but specific professional experience is not mandatory. However, candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of gender issues, political analysis, and the workings of intergovernmental bodies. Experience in research, data analysis, and communication will be beneficial.

Languages:
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral, are required for this position. A working knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, as it may enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute to the organization's objectives.

Additional Notes:
The internship is unpaid, but interns who do not receive financial support from other sources will receive a stipend from UN Women to partially subsidize their basic living costs during the internship.
