Job Overview:
The Language Specialist (Translator) position is integral to the IAEA's Language Services Section (LSS), which is responsible for providing high-quality language services to support the Agency's mission. The incumbent will be tasked with translating, drafting, and editing a variety of content, including administrative, legal, scientific, and technical documents into Chinese. This role requires a keen understanding of the nuances of language and the ability to produce translations that maintain the original meaning and style. The Language Specialist will work closely with other language teams and may need to clarify language points, ensuring consistency and accuracy across all translations. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality in all deliverables.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Language Specialist (Translator) will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to: translating a wide array of documents into Chinese, ensuring that translations are accurate and stylistically appropriate; editing Chinese content as needed; drafting official records of Policy Making Organs (PMO) meetings; clarifying language points for other Language Service teams; researching terminology to enhance the central terminology database; and suggesting innovative solutions to improve workflow efficiencies. The incumbent will also perform any additional duties as required to support the work of the Language Services Section, contributing to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the team.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in languages or a related field, although degrees in other fields may be considered if relevant. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in translating texts into Chinese is required, with experience in an international organization being a strong asset. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Chinese grammar, style, and usage, and must be proficient in using Microsoft Office software and IT translation tools, particularly Trados Studio and MultiTerm. Familiarity with the IAEA and its operations is advantageous, as is an excellent command of both Chinese and English, with knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, French, Russian, and Spanish) being a plus.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in languages or a related field. Candidates with degrees in other relevant fields may also be considered, provided they have the necessary language skills and experience. The emphasis is on having a strong foundation in language studies, which is critical for the translation and editing tasks that the role entails.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of relevant working experience in translating texts into Chinese. The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71,335, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
