Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies or professional interests. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with the IAEA's mission and contribute to its various programs. The Project and Engineering Section is specifically looking for an intern who is passionate about artificial intelligence (AI) tools and eager to apply their skills in a dynamic international environment. Interns will work closely with experienced professionals on AI modeling projects, contributing to the development of AI models and tools for the automated analysis of safeguards data. This role is ideal for individuals looking to enhance their skills while making a meaningful contribution to the IAEA's work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including analyzing proposed use cases for AI applications to improve data review workflows. They will utilize open-source models in ONNX format to build automated AI systems for data processing, ensuring that they document the source code and datasets used in their development. Interns will prepare performance reports detailing the datasets used for training and validation of the models. They will also conduct prototype and feasibility analyses of AI models and their components, prepare datasets for model development, and contribute to the design and development of user interfaces. Additionally, interns will assist in modifying existing software to integrate new AI capabilities and prepare technical documentation for system components, particularly when integrating models into existing software systems. Collaboration within the team to share progress and address project developments will also be a key responsibility.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in software engineering or a related field, such as computer science or information science. They should have a basic understanding of designing and developing automated data processing pipelines and AI-based decision support systems. Practical experience in software development using Python 3 is essential, along with knowledge of developing deep learning solutions for image data processing, particularly using convolutional networks. Familiarity with major AI software frameworks, such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, and model formats like ONNX is required. Additionally, candidates should have experience with both Windows and Linux operating systems and a basic understanding of the Git version control system. A hands-on mentality and fast-prototyping skills to evaluate new technologies are also important.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards obtaining their first degree. They may apply up to one year after completing a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. It is important that candidates have not previously participated in the IAEA's internship program.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have practical knowledge and experience in developing software and AI solutions. This includes familiarity with automated data processing and decision support systems, as well as hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks and programming languages relevant to the role. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and applying new technologies in a practical setting.

Languages:
Good written and spoken English is essential for this position. Fluency in any other IAEA official language, such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Spanish, or Russian, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
The internship is expected to last for a duration of 12 months, providing a comprehensive experience within the IAEA.
