Job Overview:
The Associate position within CHAI’s Malaria Commodity Access team is crucial for supporting National Malaria Control Programs (NMCPs) across sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and Central America. The role involves providing analytical, operational, and management expertise to help increase the treatment and cure rates of malaria patients. The Associate will collaborate with country teams and global malaria stakeholders, such as the Global Fund and WHO, to improve access to malaria commodities. The position requires strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to manage multiple tasks independently. The Associate will engage in various activities, including data analysis, developing training materials, and facilitating workshops with government stakeholders, all aimed at enhancing malaria case management and treatment strategies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate will be responsible for providing technical, operational, and implementation support in several key areas:
  • Malaria Case Management: Develop expertise in diagnosis and treatment tools, conduct data review sessions, identify opportunities for improving malaria diagnosis and treatment, and support the implementation of monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Antimalarial Drug Resistance: Provide guidance on interventions to mitigate drug resistance and support the development of national strategies.
  • Community Health: Advise on community health worker interventions, develop integrated health policies, and track indicators related to malaria services at the community level.
  • Project and Grant Management: Build relationships with stakeholders, support grant management, and assist in programmatic updates. The Associate will also be expected to perform any additional tasks as identified by the team.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include fluency in written and spoken French and advanced English skills. Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, economics, or a related field, along with relevant professional experience in a results-oriented environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required, as well as the ability to work independently in remote settings and adapt to new challenges. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential, along with 2-3 years of experience in a demanding private sector or public advisory role. Experience in developing settings and a willingness to travel frequently are also necessary.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, economics, or other relevant fields. This educational background should be complemented by professional experience that demonstrates the ability to thrive in a demanding, results-oriented environment.

Experience:
The position requires 2-3 years of experience in a challenging private sector environment, such as strategy consulting or health commodity market intelligence, or in a public sector advisory role. Experience working in developing settings is also essential, as is a willingness to travel frequently within the region, approximately 30-50% of the time, with potential for extended travel periods.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken French is mandatory, along with advanced written and spoken English skills. These language skills are crucial for effective communication with global and country partners.
