In Zimbabwe, UNDP is implementing a five-year Country Programme Document (CPD) for 2022-2026, which aims to enhance capacities, facilitate dialogue, and implement scalable interventions that promote citizen engagement and sustainable livelihoods.

Job Overview:
The Project Officer (UNV) will play a crucial role in supporting the operationalization and timely delivery of project activities under the Country Programme Document (CPD) 2022-202
  • This position involves planning, coordinating, and implementing various project activities aimed at enhancing community resilience and supporting affected communities in recovering from recurring shocks. The Project Officer will work closely with the ZRBF Project Coordinator and will be responsible for ensuring that project activities are aligned with approved plans and are executed effectively. The role requires a proactive approach to stakeholder engagement, field implementation, and monitoring and reporting, ensuring that the project meets its objectives and contributes to the overall mission of UNDP in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Officer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Project Planning and Coordination: Supporting the development and regular updating of the CRRF project implementation plan, activity schedule, and budget; coordinating project activities across target districts; organizing project meetings and stakeholder consultations.
  • Field Implementation: Ensuring effective implementation of field activities according to the project workplan; providing technical and operational support to stakeholders; conducting field visits to monitor activity implementation; planning and delivering training sessions and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships: Coordinating with government counterparts and implementing partners; maintaining effective communication among project stakeholders; representing the project in district-level coordination platforms.
  • Procurement and Contract Management Support: Assisting in procurement planning and documentation; monitoring contractor performance; verifying deliverables prior to payments.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Preparing high-quality project reports; conducting progress monitoring; documenting achievements and challenges; contributing to knowledge products and donor briefings.
  • Other Duties: Performing any other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. A solid understanding of project management principles and practices is essential, along with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Candidates should also exhibit a commitment to the values and principles of the United Nations, including accountability, integrity, and professionalism. Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures is an advantage, as is experience in capacity-building and community engagement.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, project management, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an asset and may enhance the candidate's competitiveness for the position.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in project management, community development, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development projects, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the socio-economic and political context of Zimbabwe will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Zimbabwe would be an asset and could enhance communication with community stakeholders.

This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is full-time, and the UN Volunteer will be part of the malicious insurance plan. The living conditions in Harare are generally favorable, with access to basic amenities and health facilities.
