Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Agriculture Sector Coordinator (SC) plays a crucial role within the Food Security Cluster (FSC) coordination-team" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Coordination team, responsible for ensuring timely, coherent, and effective food security interventions during humanitarian crises. The SC mobilizes stakeholders to respond strategically and coordinates food security and agriculture responses among various actors, including UN agencies, NGOs, and government bodies. This position requires a deep understanding of humanitarian principles and the ability to facilitate collaboration among diverse partners. The SC will lead the development of sector strategies, enhance coordination among food security actors, and ensure that food security and agriculture are adequately represented in humanitarian response efforts. The role also involves monitoring and evaluating sector performance, advocating for inclusion and accountability, and supporting capacity-building initiatives among partners. The SC will work closely with the UN Humanitarian Coordinator and other key stakeholders to inform strategic decisions and ensure effective implementation of food security programs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitate timely and effective food security and agriculture responses by mobilizing stakeholders strategically.
Enhance coordination among food security and agriculture actors and related humanitarian and development partners.
Ensure appropriate representation of food security and agriculture in overall humanitarian response forums.
Inform strategic decisions of the Humanitarian Coordinator and other relevant bodies.
Coordinate and implement sector strategies, including capacity building for national and FSAS members.
Develop advocacy messages to ensure alignment with humanitarian principles.
Participate in consultations regarding the alignment of LRP and UNSDCF cooperation frameworks.
Promote inclusion, accountability, and protection across FSAS activities.
Engage in contingency planning and preparedness efforts. 1
Monitor and evaluate sector performance and report on progress. 1
Lead the Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) process for food security and agriculture stakeholders. 1
Review partner projects submitted on the Humanitarian Project Cycle (HPC) online system. 1
Maintain humanitarian coordination and information-sharing mechanisms through regular meetings and technical working groups. 1
Ensure the use of common standards and harmonization of programmatic responses. 1
Represent FSAS partners and advocate on their behalf with key stakeholders. 1
Ensure timely reporting and documentation of sector activities and achievements.
Required Qualifications:
Advanced University degree (Masters) in food security, agriculture, economics, humanitarian affairs, or a related field, or a first university degree with additional years of related experience.
At least eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional experience in food security sector/cluster management, emergency response, or strategic/operational aspects of food aid.
Strong understanding of the international humanitarian response architecture, including coordination mechanisms and funding processes.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to express ideas diplomatically and inclusively.
Proven ability to organize workshops and meetings and present outcomes effectively.
Willingness to work in challenging environments and under time-critical situations.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters) in relevant fields such as food security, agriculture, economics, humanitarian affairs, or a related discipline. Alternatively, a first university degree combined with additional years of relevant experience may be considered sufficient.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional experience in food security sector management, emergency response, or related fields. Candidates should have a strong background in coordinating multiple stakeholders and managing complex humanitarian responses.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English is mandatory. Knowledge of French and/or Arabic is desirable and considered an asset for this position.
