Job Overview: The Child Protection Officer at UNICEF Ukraine plays a crucial role in promoting the rights of every child through the development and implementation of child protection programs. This position involves providing professional technical, operational, and administrative assistance throughout the programming process. The officer will engage in researching, collecting, analyzing, and presenting technical program information while adhering to organizational rules and procedures. The role emphasizes the importance of equity, ensuring that all children have the opportunity to survive, develop, and reach their full potential without discrimination. The officer will support program development and planning, manage and monitor program delivery, provide technical support for program implementation, build partnerships, and contribute to knowledge management and capacity building.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support to programme development and planning: Research and analyze political, protection, social, and economic trends; collect and synthesize information for program development; prepare technical reports; facilitate the establishment of program goals and objectives; provide technical and administrative support throughout programming processes; prepare documentation for program review and approval.
Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results: Collaborate with colleagues and partners to analyze implementation issues; participate in monitoring and evaluation exercises; keep records of reports and assessments; monitor resource use and compliance with organizational standards; prepare inputs for program and donor reporting.
Technical and operational support to programme implementation: Conduct field visits and surveys; assess progress and provide technical support; report on critical issues and bottlenecks; support government counterparts and partners in understanding UNICEF policies and best practices.
Networking and partnership building: Build partnerships with government and national stakeholders; participate in inter-agency meetings; research potential donors and prepare resource mobilization materials; draft communication materials for program advocacy.
Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building: Capture and share lessons learned; apply innovative approaches; benchmark best practices; participate in capacity building initiatives to enhance stakeholder competencies.
Required Qualifications: Minimum requirements include a university degree in international relations, human rights, psychology, sociology, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">international law, or a relevant social science field. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF’s core values of Care, Respect, Integrity, Trust, Accountability, and Sustainability. The competencies required for this position include self-awareness, collaboration, partnership building, innovation, strategic thinking, and the ability to manage ambiguity and complexity.
Educational Background: A university degree in one of the following fields is required: international relations, human rights, psychology, sociology, international law, or another relevant social science field.
Experience: At least one year of professional experience in social services, managing support programs for children with disabilities, child protection, or related areas is required. Experience working in a developing country is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Kyiv and the incumbent will be expected to work on-site. Depending on security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security conditions, relocation within Ukraine may be required.
