Job Overview:
The Climate, Peace and advisor" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Advisor position is embedded within the Political Affairs Section of the UNOAU and reports directly to the Chief of Section. The primary function of this role is to lead the UNOAU's initiatives on the interconnections between climate change, peace, and security. This includes conducting thorough analyses, coordinating efforts, advocating for necessary changes, and fostering partnerships with relevant stakeholders. The Advisor will work closely with counterparts in the African Union to enhance their capacity, provide technical advice, and support knowledge management efforts. The role is critical in promoting the integration of climate considerations into the operations of both UNOAU and the African Union, ensuring that climate-related issues are addressed in the context of peace and security. The Advisor will also monitor policy developments and contribute to the production of knowledge and reports related to climate, peace, and security in Africa, thereby supporting the African Union's strategic objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate, Peace and Security Advisor will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to: providing strategic analysis and policy advice on the interlinkages between climate change, peace, and security; promoting the integration of climate considerations into UNOAU and African Union operations; supporting the design of policy initiatives for various contexts; monitoring and reporting on policy developments; enhancing coordination between UNOAU and the African Union; serving as the technical focal point on climate, peace, and security; supporting the African Union in engaging member states and regional mechanisms; contributing to knowledge production and dissemination; identifying funding gaps and developing proposals for resource mobilization; collaborating with partners on climate finance; participating in relevant conferences and seminars; drafting various documents; and performing other related duties as required. The Advisor will also collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of climate, peace, and security issues, particularly the impact of climate change on human security. They should demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret data effectively, establish partnerships, and coordinate complex processes involving multiple stakeholders. Educational Background:

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in areas related to climate, peace and security, climate change, environment, political affairs, diplomacy, international relations, law, conflict prevention, peacebuilding, and related fields. Experience in political analysis, conflict resolution, and strategy development is essential. Additionally, candidates should have demonstrable experience in political outreach, facilitation, analysis, advice, and reporting, as well as drafting and editing analytical reports. Experience working in international organizations or NGOs is required, and familiarity with the African context, particularly in conflict or post-conflict settings, is desirable. Experience with the African Union and regional economic communities, as well as policy advisory and advocacy experience, is also beneficial.

Languages:
English is the required working language for this position, while French is considered desirable. Candidates should possess a proficiency level that meets the UN Language Framework standards for effective communication in both languages, particularly in producing high-quality analytical reports and engaging in discussions with stakeholders.
