Interns will engage in various tasks that support the dissemination of information about the UN's work, including social media management, event preparation, and research. This internship is an opportunity to learn about the UN's operations, enhance communication skills, and contribute to the promotion of the UN's mission. Interns are expected to work either full-time or part-time, depending on their academic commitments, and must be available during the Summer 2026 academic semester.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting with the content creation and design of social media posts, analyzing social media metrics, and promoting social media content; supporting the production of communication products through research, information compilation, and logisticscoordination; assisting in the preparation for events and visits from high-level UN officials; compiling, analyzing, and organizing data for office reports; attending meetings and drafting summaries; and performing other related tasks as necessary to support the office's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Candidates must provide proof of their academic status and may need to submit an official certificate later in the process.
Educational Background: Candidates should be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in or have completed a Master’s or Ph.D. program. The educational background should be relevant to the internship role, ideally in fields such as communications, international relations, public relations, or a related discipline that aligns with the UN's mission and activities.
Experience: While no prior professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or skills that align with the responsibilities of the position. This could include coursework, projects, or volunteer work related to public information, communications, or international relations.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, to fulfill the internship's requirements.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid and can be either full-time or part-time, depending on the intern's academic obligations. Interns are expected to work five days a week (35 hours) as full-time interns or three days a week (21 hours) as part-time interns. The internship is designed to be in-person, but remote work options may be available on a case-by-case basis. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. It is important for candidates to discuss their visa requirements prior to accepting the internship offer. The UN does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
