Job Overview: The Economic intern" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Affairs Intern position is designed for individuals who are eager to contribute to the work of the Subregional Office for South-East Asia (SROSEA) at ESCAP. The internship is a full-time, unpaid opportunity lasting between three to six months, with a preference for candidates who can commit to a longer duration. Interns will work under the supervision of the Head of the Subregional Office, engaging in various tasks that support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Southeast Asia. The role involves providing research support, assisting in project implementation, and developing digital platforms and multimedia content. Interns will have a tailored work plan that aligns with their skills, interests, and future career aspirations, contributing to policy work and activities aimed at advancing the SDGs in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be responsible for a range of tasks, including:
Contributing to research initiatives related to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in ASEAN, which involves conducting literature reviews, compiling data, and drafting analytical inputs.
Assisting in coordinating UN–ASEAN engagements and joint initiatives, which includes preparing background materials, tracking activities, and supporting communication with both internal and external partners.
Supporting the planning and delivery of SROSEA meetings and events, such as policy dialogues, workshops, and consultations, which entails assisting with agenda preparation, participant coordination, and logistical arrangements.
Developing communication and outreach materials, including flyers, press releases, newsletter content, and social media posts to enhance SROSEA's visibility and engagement.
Providing support on special projects and other tasks as required, contributing to the broader work programme of the Office.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor's, master's, or Ph.D. programme, or have completed such programmes. Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Strong research and writing skills are also preferred, as they will benefit the United Nations during the internship.
Educational Background: The position requires applicants to be enrolled in or have completed a relevant academic programme. This includes being in the final year of a bachelor's degree or having completed a master's or Ph.D. programme. The educational background should be closely related to the type of internship being applied for, ensuring that the intern has the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute effectively to the work of the SROSEA.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, applicants should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
