Job Overview:
The coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Coordinator (Malaria) position is integral to the WHO Country Office for India, focusing on the implementation of malaria and vector-borne disease programs. The incumbent will work under the guidance of the Deputy Head of WHO Country Office India and the Team Leader for Communicable Diseases and Health Emergencies. The role involves providing technical contributions to malaria control efforts, promoting evidence generation for informed policy decisions, and advising on strategies for universal health coverage related to malaria services. The position requires collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW) to strengthen health systems and ensure effective malaria control measures are in place. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring and evaluating malaria-related activities, supporting the development of integrated information systems, and fostering multisectoral responses to malaria and vector-borne diseases.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical contributions in malaria and vector-borne diseases and support the WHO Country Office in implementing relevant work plans under the WHO-GOI collaborative program.
  • Promote the generation of evidence on malaria and other vector-borne diseases to inform policy-level decisions by the government.
  • Improve inclusive malaria information systems and develop integrated information systems.
  • Advise on equity-focused universal health coverage for malaria services and develop integrated service delivery models.
  • Strengthen multisectoral responses for malaria control, including private sector engagement and innovative strategies for urban malaria.
  • Provide technical assistance for the development of locally tailored malaria strategies and operational plans.
  • Advise MoH&FW on accelerated strategies for malaria burden reduction and elimination.
  • Support sub-national malaria elimination efforts and verification of zero indigenous cases.
  • Collaborate with MoH&FW in national malaria reviews and capacity-building efforts. 1
  • Review contractual proposals and develop technical proposals for WHO's support. 1
  • Support the health information repository at WCO India through data collation and analysis. 1
  • Prepare administrative and technical reports and undertake additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Required Qualifications:
Essential qualifications include a medical degree (MBBS/MD) or a university degree in health, epidemiology, entomology, or tropical medicine. A postgraduate degree (Master's or PhD) in any of these fields or a combination of training and experience is desirable. Candidates should also possess a diploma or certificate in communicable diseases, malaria, or other vector-borne diseases. WHO only considers higher educational qualifications obtained from accredited institutions, which can be verified through the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Educational Background:
Candidates must have a medical degree (MBBS/MD) or a university degree in health-related fields such as epidemiology, entomology, or tropical medicine. A postgraduate degree (Master's or PhD) in relevant areas is desirable, along with a diploma or certificate in communicable diseases or malaria. WHO emphasizes the importance of accredited educational qualifications, and candidates are encouraged to verify their credentials through the WHED.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least two years of experience at the national level in implementing malaria and vector-borne disease programs. Experience working with UN or other international organizations is desirable, as is a track record in positions requiring strong technical skills in a multi-sectoral environment. Familiarity with vector-borne control interventions at the national or state level is also preferred.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory, along with proficiency in Hindi. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in New Delhi, India, and is subject to local recruitment. The monthly remuneration is INR 218,855, taxable as per Indian laws, and the appointment will be through a Special Services Agreement (SSA), which is extendable based on performance and programmatic needs. The role may require extensive travel, potentially up to 15 days per month, to various states and districts. Only Indian nationals are eligible to apply, and the position is not subject to assignment outside the home country.
