Job Overview:
The Technical Consultant position at UN Women involves providing expert support to the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) in India, particularly in the context of India's BRICS-2026 Presidency. The role requires engaging with stakeholders to enhance gender perspectives in intergovernmental processes, supporting the smooth functioning of these processes, and providing technical advice on international cooperation for sustainable development. The consultant will be responsible for developing strategic documents, conducting research, and facilitating stakeholder engagement to advance the women's track for BRICS. This position demands a strong understanding of gender issues, intergovernmental processes, and the ability to work collaboratively with various partners.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Technical Consultant will have a range of responsibilities, including:
  • Engaging with stakeholders to strengthen gender perspectives in intergovernmental work.
  • Supporting the MWCD in overseeing reporting processes and providing advice on intergovernmental procedures.
  • Conducting research and analysis on gender issues related to BRICS.
  • Developing concept notes and background documents on key themes for India's BRICS presidency.
  • Supporting the organization of Working Group meetings and preparing necessary presentations and position papers.
  • Contributing to the design of strategic approaches for MWCD's engagement with BRICS.
  • Drafting outcome documents and supporting negotiation processes during BRICS meetings.
  • Coordinating with various government ministries and international organizations.
  • Keeping track of discussions and proposals within BRICS Working Groups. 1
  • Performing any other duties assigned by supervisors at MWCD and UN Women.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong commitment to the mission and values of UN Women, with demonstrated knowledge and experience in intergovernmental and normative processes. They should have the ability to analyze policies from a gender perspective and produce accurate outputs with attention to detail. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage complexities and shifting priorities effectively. Candidates should also demonstrate accountability, creative problem-solving abilities, and effective stakeholder engagement skills.

Educational Background:
A Master's Degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Economics, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Political Science, International Relations, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law, or Public Administration from a recognized university is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and intergovernmental processes.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level is required, particularly in providing management advisory services and hands-on experience with government entities. Experience in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects is essential. Familiarity with the workings of the United Nations and normative intergovernmental processes is an advantage. Proficiency in using office software and web-based management systems is also necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Hindi is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time consultancy position, and the consultant is expected to disclose any outside activities and refrain from taking up outside work during the assignment. The role may require travel, and consultants aged 65 or older must provide a medical examination and statement of fitness to work. The evaluation process for candidates will include portfolio assessment and interviews. UN Women emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy on misconduct and discrimination, and selected candidates will undergo rigorous background checks.
