Job Overview: The Technical Consultant position is crucial for supporting UN Women’s initiatives in India, particularly in the context of the BRICS-2026 Presidency. The role involves engaging with stakeholders to enhance gender perspectives in intergovernmental work, overseeing reporting processes, and providing strategic advice to the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD). The Technical Consultant will work closely with the MWCD BRICS Cell and UN Women to ensure the successful execution of the women's track for India's BRICS presidency. This includes providing technical advice on international cooperation under BRICS for sustainable development, focusing on Goal 5: Gender Equality. The position requires a proactive approach to research, analysis, and the creation of strategic partnerships to advance the Agenda 2030 goals.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Consultant will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Engaging with stakeholders to strengthen gender perspectives in intergovernmental processes, identifying challenges, and creating opportunities for MWCD.
Supporting the smooth functioning of intergovernmental processes by overseeing reporting and sharing institutional knowledge on procedures.
Conducting research and analysis on gender issues related to BRICS and preparing background documents, concept notes, and position papers.
Assisting in organizing Working Group meetings and preparing presentations and interventions.
Supporting MWCD’s engagement with the BRICS secretariat and contributing to the design of strategic approaches to embed gender equality in BRICS work.
Drafting meeting records and coordinating with BRICS Member States.
Keeping track of discussions in BRICS Working Groups and proposing consensus-building strategies.
Performing any other duties assigned by the Direct Supervisor in MWCD and UN Women.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong commitment to the mission and values of UN Women, with demonstrated knowledge and experience in intergovernmental and normative processes. They should have the ability to analyze policies from a gender perspective and produce accurate outputs with attention to detail. The role requires effective communication skills, the ability to manage complexities and shifting priorities, and the capacity to maintain constructive relationships with clients and partners. Candidates should also demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure within strict deadlines.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Social Sciences, Economics, Development Studies, Gender Studies, Political Science, International Relations, law" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">International Law, or Public Administration from a recognized Indian or international university is required for this position.
Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in providing management advisory services is required. Candidates should have hands-on experience, preferably with the Government, in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of development projects. Experience working with the Government or United Nations in support of normative intergovernmental processes is an advantage. Proficiency in using computers and office software packages, as well as web-based management systems, is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in English and Hindi is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time assignment, and the consultant is expected to disclose any outside activity and shall not be permitted to take up any outside work during this assignment. The position may require travel, and consultants aged 65 years or older must provide a full medical examination and statement of fitness to work.
