The Country Director will also be responsible for establishing the necessary human resources setup and representing the organization in negotiations with various stakeholders, including local authorities, partners, UN agencies, and donors. The position requires a proactive approach to address the high level of emergency needs and navigate the challenges posed by security and access in the region. The Country Director will lead efforts to expand the organization's presence and impact in North Darfur, particularly through the re-opening of the El Fasher office and the development of a multi-year programmatic strategy.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assess the security situation in North Darfur and identify local actors influencing its evolution.
Engage in negotiations with local and national authorities to secure necessary authorizations for program activities.
Design a strategic response plan for North Darfur, considering current budgets and potential funding opportunities.
Develop the human resources structure and operational concept for the mission.
Represent the organization in local negotiations with authorities, partners, UN agencies, and donors.
Coordinate with various sectors including WASH, Food Security, and Livelihoods to ensure integrated programming.
Lead the FaSER (First and Second line Emergency Response) initiative in collaboration with other NGOs.
Manage a diverse team of international and national staff, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Monitor and evaluate program implementation, adjusting strategies as necessary to meet evolving needs. 1
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, as well as donor requirements.
A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0-2 years in a similar leadership position.
Proven skills in security and access management, rapid needs assessment, and negotiation.
Strong conflict sensitivity and adaptability to challenging environments.
Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate initiative in problem-solving.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field, which may include humanitarian response, international cooperation, development studies, or political sciences. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and the socio-political dynamics in conflict-affected areas.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have a minimum of 3-4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with specific emphasis on leadership roles. While direct experience in a similar position is preferred, candidates with relevant experience in related roles may also be considered. Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. The compensation package includes a gross monthly salary starting from EUR 3,140, which consists of a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. The organization implements a break system, allowing for time off every three months, with an additional rest day granted for each month worked. Expatriates are also covered by a comprehensive insurance package that includes healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations.
