Job Overview:
The Communication and Advocacy Officer position is crucial for the IOM's efforts in Brazil, particularly in Boa Vista, where the organization is actively involved in various projects aimed at supporting migrants and refugees. The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of the National Project Officer and will collaborate closely with the Communications team based in Brasília. This role involves producing a wide range of communication materials, including press releases, reports, social media content, and advocacy materials. The officer will be responsible for crafting compelling narratives that highlight IOM's activities and impact in the North Region of Brazil, ensuring that the information is accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. The candidate will also play a key role in implementing creative communication strategies that promote social integration and combat xenophobia, thereby fostering a more inclusive environment for migrants and local communities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Communication and Advocacy Officer include supporting the production and publication of various communication materials such as press releases, briefings, and audiovisual content related to IOM activities in the North Region. The officer will assist in creating content for IOM's social media platforms, including X, Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, and Facebook. Additionally, the officer will provide training for field teams on media and communication best practices, support media relations activities, and maintain an updated database of national and international journalists. The officer will also contribute to campaigns aimed at promoting social integration and combating xenophobia, conduct research and fact-checking for communication materials, and represent the IOM Communications team at relevant events. Other responsibilities include text editing for local reports, maintaining a repository of communication materials, capturing images, covering conferences and workshops, and performing administrative tasks related to communication.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma with three years of relevant professional experience or a bachelor's degree in Social Communication or related fields from an accredited institution with at least one year of relevant experience. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under pressure, and a strong capacity to produce clear and concise communication products. Familiarity with the migration context in Brazil and experience in advocacy and public relations are highly desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a high school diploma, with a preference for those holding a bachelor's degree in Social Communication or related fields. The educational background should be from an accredited academic institution, ensuring that the candidate has the foundational knowledge necessary for effective communication and advocacy work.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant experience in communication is required for this position. Candidates should have a proven track record of handling multiple projects simultaneously, demonstrating the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high-quality outputs. Experience in media relations, social media management, and content creation is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, along with working knowledge of Spanish (both oral and written). Proficiency in English is desirable but not required. The ability to communicate effectively in these languages is crucial for engaging with diverse stakeholders and audiences.
