Job Overview: The Data Management Assistant position is integral to the UNHCR Field Unit in Boa Vista, Brazil. This role is supervised by the Assistant Settlement Planning Officer and involves supporting various activities related to registration, documentation, and data management. The Data, Identity Management and Analysis (DIMA) Unit is responsible for overseeing the entire data cycle and implementing data governance strategies to ensure accuracy and consistency in data handling. The UN Volunteer will work closely with field colleagues, senior management, technical staff, UN agencies, government counterparts, and NGO focal points. This position requires a proactive approach, strong analytical and technical skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively. The role also involves contributing to initiatives aimed at improving data usage for monitoring displacement and assistance in Roraima, ensuring that analytical outputs translate into practical tools for planning and policy development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Data Management Assistant will undertake a variety of tasks under the direct supervision of the Assistant Settlement Planning Officer, including: processing data related to surveys and secondary data to ensure timely and accurate availability for operational use; conducting data analysis activities on persons of concern using UNHCR’s data systems; coordinating data-related activities and ensuring effective collaboration among UNHCR and partner institutions; leading data governance and quality assurance processes; supporting monitoring and evaluation efforts by tracking indicators and compiling progress reports; and contributing to core protection activities under UNHCR’s mandate by supporting data-driven approaches that enhance the protection and assistance of refugees.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of relevant experience in Data Science, Data Management, or Project Management. Desirable qualifications include experience with data analysis in developmental or humanitarian contexts, an understanding of international protection principles, and experience in data collection and analysis in field situations, preferably within the context of UNHCR.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Data Management, Project Management, Engineering, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to perform the duties effectively.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in fields related to data science, data management, or project management. Candidates with experience in data analysis within humanitarian or developmental contexts will be given preference. Familiarity with UNHCR's operational context and data systems is also advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese and English is mandatory for this position. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, as they will be required to interact with various stakeholders and produce reports in both languages. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.
