Job Overview: The Photographer position at FAO involves capturing high-quality images that document the organization's projects and activities in Sudan. The role requires the photographer to undertake missions to various locations as requested by project leaders, ensuring that the visual documentation aligns with the goals of the FAO Country Office. The photographer will be responsible for producing a minimum of 60 high-quality photographs that include a variety of formats such as portraits, action shots, and landscape images. Each photograph must be accompanied by detailed captions that provide context and information about the subjects and activities depicted. The photographer will work closely with communication specialists and project managers to ensure that the images meet FAO's production standards and effectively communicate the organization's mission and activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Photographer include:
Taking portraits of FAO field staff, implementing partners, and stakeholders engaged in various activities.
Capturing high-quality photographs of field activities, including seed loading, truck dispatch operations, and farmers' vaccinations of animals, as per the requests of project managers.
Providing at least 60 high-quality photographs in a mix of horizontal and vertical formats, ensuring a variety of shots including landscapes and action images.
Writing detailed captions in English for each photograph, specifying geographical locations, names of individuals, time of capture, and brief descriptions of the activities.
Ensuring that photographs are taken respectfully and capture engaging expressions.
Liaising with the OCC to maintain workflow and quality standards for photo production.
Submitting design proposals for layout approval and performing corrections as needed.
Delivering high- and low-resolution files for print and web use, along with complete design packages.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree in Journalism, Communication, Computer Science, or a related field. Additionally, they should have at least one year of relevant experience in field photography. A working knowledge of English at Level C is required, and knowledge of Arabic or another FAO official language is considered an asset. Candidates must be nationals of Sudan.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant field such as Journalism, Communication, or Computer Science. The FAO emphasizes that only higher educational qualifications obtained from accredited institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED) will be considered.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience in field photography. Candidates should demonstrate proven experience in taking photographs in various settings, including meetings with multidisciplinary teams and interactions with government and humanitarian partners. Experience in understanding client needs and adapting to new technologies is also essential.
Languages: A working knowledge of English (Level C) is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic or another FAO official language is considered an asset, enhancing communication and collaboration within the organization and with local stakeholders.
