Job Overview: The position of GEA-Consultant on Sustainable Development involves the preparation of a local development strategy under Cluster
The consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive strategy that aligns with sustainable development goals and local needs. This role requires a deep understanding of sustainable development principles and practices, as well as the ability to engage with local stakeholders to gather insights and foster collaboration. The consultant will work closely with UNDP and local authorities to ensure that the strategy is practical, actionable, and tailored to the specific context of the region. The assignment is expected to last for 10 months, from February 2026 to November 2026, with a maximum of 40 working days allocated for the consultant's engagement. Travel to specific locations such as Lopare and Modriča may be required to facilitate stakeholder consultations and strategy development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting a thorough analysis of the current local development landscape; engaging with local stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and civil society organizations, to gather input and feedback; drafting the local development strategy document that outlines goals, objectives, and implementation plans; ensuring that the strategy is aligned with national policies and international best practices in sustainable development; facilitating workshops and meetings to present findings and gather further input; revising the strategy based on feedback received; and preparing a final report that summarizes the process, findings, and recommendations. The consultant will also be expected to maintain clear communication with UNDP throughout the assignment and adhere to the timelines set for deliverables.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in sustainable development, public policy, or a related field. A proven track record of developing strategic documents or policies in the context of local development is essential. The consultant should have excellent analytical skills, the ability to synthesize complex information, and experience in stakeholder engagement. Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be an advantage. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are required to effectively convey ideas and facilitate discussions with diverse groups.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in sustainable development, public administration, environmental science, or a related discipline is required. Additional certifications or training in project management or strategic planning will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional development in the field of sustainable development.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in sustainable development, local governance, or a related area. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP or similar agencies, is highly desirable. Proven experience in conducting stakeholder consultations and developing strategic documents is essential for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in English. Proficiency in the local language, Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian, is highly desirable and will facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an individual contractor role, with a contract duration of 10 months. The consultant will be expected to work on a part-time basis, with a maximum of 40 working days throughout the assignment period. The position may involve travel to specific locations within Bosnia and Herzegovina, and candidates should be prepared for this requirement.
