Job Overview: The National Consultant for the 7th CBD Report & Stakeholder Engagement will be responsible for preparing the national report on the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). This role involves extensive stakeholder engagement to ensure that the report reflects the views and contributions of various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities. The consultant will need to gather data, analyze biodiversity trends, and compile findings into a comprehensive report that meets the requirements set by the CBD. The assignment is expected to take place from March 2026 to August 2026, and the consultant will be required to work closely with UNDP and other relevant stakeholders throughout the process. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in enhancing the understanding of biodiversity issues in Turkmenistan and contributing to the global efforts to protect biological diversity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the National Consultant include but are not limited to:
Conducting a thorough review of existing data and literature related to biodiversity in Turkmenistan.
Engaging with stakeholders to gather input and feedback on biodiversity issues and conservation efforts.
Analyzing trends in biodiversity and identifying key challenges and opportunities for conservation.
Compiling and synthesizing information into a draft national report that adheres to the guidelines of the CBD.
Facilitating workshops and meetings with stakeholders to discuss findings and gather additional insights.
Revising the report based on feedback from stakeholders and UNDP.
Ensuring that the final report is submitted by the deadline and meets all quality standards.
Providing recommendations for future actions and strategies to enhance biodiversity conservation in Turkmenistan.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position should possess the following qualifications:
A strong background in environmental science, biology, or a related field.
Proven experience in biodiversity assessment and reporting, particularly in the context of the CBD.
Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise reports.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Familiarity with the legal and policy frameworks related to biodiversity conservation in Turkmenistan.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
Educational Background: Candidates should have at least a Master's degree in environmental science, biology, ecology, or a related field. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an advantage, particularly for those with extensive research experience in biodiversity and conservation.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in biodiversity assessment, environmental policy, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of the UN, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and previous experience in preparing national reports will be considered a significant asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as the report will be prepared in English. Knowledge of Turkmen and Russian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the engagement process.
