Job Overview: The Safety Assistant (Radio Operator) plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of DRC personnel and operations in the field. This position involves monitoring and recording the movements of DRC vehicles and staff, as well as keeping abreast of the security situation in the operational area. The Safety Assistant is responsible for maintaining communication with team leaders, distributing information promptly, and ensuring that all personnel are informed of any changes in the security landscape. The role requires a high level of alertness and discipline, as the Safety Assistant must be prepared to respond to any incidents that may affect the safety of staff or operations. The position also involves conducting briefings, providing safety equipment for field trips, and ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive information. The Safety Assistant is expected to work night shifts and demonstrate a commitment to DRC's core competencies, including striving for excellence, collaborating with others, taking the lead, effective communication, and demonstrating integrity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Safety Assistant's primary duties and responsibilities include:
Monitoring and recording the movement of DRC vehicles and personnel in the assigned operational area.
Collecting hourly/daily location reports from the assigned trip/team leader.
Distributing messages and information in a timely manner to the appropriate individuals.
Monitoring verified information networks and providing regular updates on the security situation.
Informing the immediate supervisor/manager of any changes in the security situation, incidents affecting personnel safety, or other urgent situations.
Ensuring confidentiality of information regarding personnel movements and operations.
Utilizing GPS systems effectively and verifying that DRC vehicle tracking devices are operational.
Updating contact databases for all DRC staff in the area.
Transferring relevant trip information received during shifts into appropriate records. 1
Monitoring the air security situation in various regions. 1
Conducting weekly checks of communication equipment. 1
Conducting briefings and instructing staff prior to trips. 1
Providing necessary safety equipment to staff going on field trips. 1
Completing any additional tasks as assigned by the manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Safety Assistant position should possess the following qualifications:
A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in safety and security roles, preferably in a humanitarian context.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Ability to work calmly under pressure and in challenging environments.
Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate comfortably with native speakers.
A commitment to DRC's core values and ethical standards, including safeguarding against exploitation and abuse.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Additional training or certifications in safety and security management, communication, or related fields would be advantageous. Candidates with relevant vocational training or experience in humanitarian settings will also be considered favorably.
Experience: The position requires at least 1 year of relevant experience in safety and security roles. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in high-pressure environments, demonstrating the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while maintaining a focus on safety and security protocols. Experience in humanitarian contexts or with international organizations is highly desirable.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, as effective communication is essential for this role. Knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate better communication with local staff and stakeholders. Candidates who are multilingual may have an advantage in this position.
Additional Notes: This position is a temporary replacement role for a period of 12 months, with a probationary contract length of 3 months and the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The position is designated for Ukrainian Nationals only and requires the ability to work night shifts. The start date is as soon as possible, and the salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national staff.
