Job Overview:
The Driver position at the WHO Country Office in Syria is crucial for facilitating the transportation of authorized personnel to various destinations, including field visits. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of office vehicles, maintaining them in good working condition, and assisting with logistical arrangements for official personnel and visitors. This role requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance, adherence to local traffic regulations, and the ability to interact with clients and stakeholders with professionalism and respect. The Driver will also support the office by procuring minor supplies and acting as a messenger when necessary, contributing to the overall efficiency of the office operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of duties including: driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel to different destinations, including field visits; meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting with visa and customs formalities; ensuring the delivery and collection of official pouches and transportation of documents; maintaining the vehicle by checking fuel, oil, battery, brakes, and tires; performing minor repairs and arranging for major repairs; logging official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance records; procuring minor supplies for the office and managing local purchases; and acting as a messenger within the office as needed. The role requires a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism while representing WHO.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid professional driving license for both light and heavy-duty vehicles. Essential qualifications include a minimum of eight years of education and at least two years of professional driving experience, preferably within UN organizations. Candidates should demonstrate basic mechanical knowledge and skills in operating and maintaining various types of vehicles, as well as a good understanding of the local topography and traffic regulations. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work respectfully with diverse clients are also essential.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is equivalent to eight years of schooling. Candidates must have completed their education at an accredited institution recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires at least two years of professional driving experience. Experience working with UN organizations is highly desirable, as it provides familiarity with the operational standards and expectations of international organizations.

Languages:
Expert knowledge of the local language is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a beginner's knowledge of English is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is subject to local recruitment and is intended for candidates residing in the local commuting area of the duty station. WHO offers an attractive remuneration package, including an annual net base salary starting at USD 9,027, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. Employees are entitled to 30 days of annual leave.
