Job Overview: The Social Media Specialist at UN Women plays a crucial role in coordinating and overseeing the social media policies, strategies, and activities of the organization, particularly in relation to the Bejing30 campaign. This position involves developing and implementing social media strategies aligned with UN Women’s overall communications plans for various campaigns and international commemorations. The specialist will manage daily social media outreach, ensuring effective engagement and visibility of UN Women’s work on platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok. The role also includes providing technical and administrative support to colleagues across regions, ensuring they have the necessary tools and guidance for effective social media management. The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring social media trends, analyzing outreach efforts, and providing training to staff on best practices in social media usage.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement social media strategies for major events and campaigns, ensuring alignment with UN Women’s communications plans.
Oversee the creation of social media assets and packages for campaigns and international days, collaborating with various teams.
Manage daily social media outreach, ensuring effective messaging and engagement on UN Women’s platforms.
Monitor and analyze social media performance, providing regular reports and insights.
Provide technical support and guidance on social media account management to colleagues globally.
Conduct training sessions for UN Women staff on social media best practices.
Ensure the amplification of content from field offices on global channels.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess expert-level knowledge of major social media platforms and have proven experience in strategic social media outreach at the international level. They should demonstrate the ability to develop and implement large-scale social media strategies and campaigns. Excellent writing and editing skills are essential, along with experience in social media content production. Candidates should have strong organizational and time management skills, the ability to multitask, and a strong awareness of digital trends. Knowledge of women’s rights and gender equality issues, as well as familiarity with the UN system, is considered an asset.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Communications, Journalism, International Affairs, Political Science, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in social media at the international level is required. Candidates should have experience in developing and implementing social media strategies and campaigns, as well as in writing, editing, and content production for social media audiences. Experience with advanced tools for social media management and evaluation, such as HootSuite, is also required. Experience in fast-paced communications or advocacy contexts is desirable, along with the ability to produce and interpret social media analytics to inform content production.
Languages: Written and oral fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Spanish is desirable, and knowledge of other UN languages such as Chinese, Russian, or Arabic is also considered a plus.
